Here I used the utility poles present as a leading line into the image with a view looking to the northeast across the north Arizona and national park landscape.

A Daily Dose of Bears at Katmai (Katmai National Park & Preserve) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: I captured this image at the Falls Platform with a view looking to the northeast at Brooks Falls while observing brown bears in Katmai National Park. The image is of several male brown bears in the river and falls area attempting to catch salmon to eat. I pulled back a lot on the focal length to capture much more of the falls and surrounding area. My thinking was to include all the bears present and capture the feeling of this wildlife and national park setting.

My Time for a Getaway in Biscayne National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: During a recent walk, as I explored along a trail on Boca Chita Key in Biscayne National Park, I was captivated by this setting. The view was to the northeast as I looked across this grassy meadow to a vibrantly colored tapestry of leaves on a nearby tree. In composing this image , I attempted to center this tree while minimizing a park service building behind it. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 8 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

Premium Outdoor Experiences in Bryce Canyon National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the northeast while taking in views across eroded formations and hoodoos present while walking the Rim Trail in Bryce Canyon National Park. My thought on composing the image was to zoom in on one section of those hoodoos and have it fill the image from edge to edge. It would create an idea I’d read several years ago that the author entitled "the impact of less.” I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 5 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

Valjean Hills and a Distant View of the Snowcapped Kingston Range by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While at a roadside pullout along California State Route 127 with a view looking to the northeast across this Mojave desert setting to more distant mountain views of the Kingston Range and Valjean Hills. I felt that angling my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward would help create more of a sweeping view leading up to the distant ridges and peaks.

A Lone Contrail over Ponderosa Point (Bryce Canyon National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the northeast while taking in views across eroded formations of a nearby escarpment at Ponderosa Point in Bryce Canyon National Park. My thinking initially was composing this image as more of a snapshot of the escarpment wall and having the blue skies be that color contrast to complement the earth-tones in the lower portion of the image. But then an airplane was flying over, and I liked how that single contrail added something extra to the skies above for the captured image.
