Bridge Crossing at the Lower Otter Creek Overlook (Blue Ridge Parkway) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While taking in views of a bridge crossing to Otter Creek at a roadside pullout along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The setting is looking to the east and using the bridge itself as a leading line into the image with a forest of trees all around.

A Mountain Nature (Banff National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While at a parking area overlook along the Lake Minnewanka Scenic Drive in Banff National Park. The setting is looking to the east to Mount Inglismaldie and other peaks of the Fairholme Range. My thought on composing this image was to take advantage of a break between the trees and capture that look beyond to the more distant ridges and peaks. The rest of my thought on this image was pulling back on the focal length and lining up the mountain to have it fill most of the image as I angled my Nikon SLR camera from this overlook position.

My Colorado Front Porch View for a Day by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A view from a front porch area while staying at the Elk Trace Bed & Breakfast. The setting is to the east. My thought on composing this image was to get back as far as I could on the porch and pull back on the focal length so that I could capture a wide angle view, including some nearby outdoor furniture as well as using some posts to frame an image of a view beyond and across a grassy meadow to more distant mountains. I loved the look of this mountain western feel in southeastern Colorado. The rest was later making adjustments with control points in DxO PhotoLab 7 to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image. I also used the perspective tool in DxO PhotoLab 7 and eliminated any distortions from the alignment and angled view present.

Getting out There in Channel Islands National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: I captured this image while hiking to Scorpion Rock Overlook with a view extending to the east to the namesake rocks. One can also see the extensive network of caves along Santa Cruz Island in this part of Channel Islands National Park. Given the low clouds and overcast skies that day, I chose to minimize that and angle my Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera downward down the cliff edge to capture a sweeping down and then across.

Treasuring an Afternoon Spent on the Shores of Lake Superior by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: I captured this image while walking along and exploring the shoreline of Lake Superior in Temperance River State Park. The view extends to the east and was focused on the waves coming in with some nearby ones crashing up on a rocky outcropping I was on. And composing this image, I took advantage and included that outcropping to add some foreground interest for a look beyond to the lake waters, as well as a more distant shoreline. I wanted to keep a leveled-on view with a horizon, balancing the lake waters with the skies above.

A Quirk of Timing by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: An image captured extending to the east of some nearby tall buildings in the downtown area of Austin, Texas. I had been trying to work on focus techniques and chose some nearby buildings to practice that. A Southwest Airlines flight so happened to fly right over some of the buildings and was able to capture this one as it cleared the line of sight.
