wandering through darkness | mini mood board - azz + music

Azz is something of an enthusiast when it comes to music and, despite this board, his taste is actually pretty vast -- he will literally listen to any genre of music, it just depends on what he's in the mood for. He uses a portable tape deck most of the time when he's out and about (mostly so that Rhys doesn't feel alone with his magic Walkman), but will sometimes opt for the neon green iPod Nano that Gray gave him while Azz was in AWO's hospital wing (to prevent him going completely bananas). The van is strictly CDs because it's an old van and the only options are FM radio or the CD player and Azz much prefers sticking one of his CDs in. His go-to favourites are: Rage Against The Machine, Vixen, Fall Out Boy, The Clash, Professor Green, Bastille, Lights, Enter Shikari, Recoil (huhuh**), Stormzy, Faith No More, VersaEmerge, Blur, and La Dispute. His favourites of the favourites are: RATM, Vixen, Stormzy, Blur, and Recoil. RATM is his all-time favourite band and is more likely to be blasting them in his van than anything else, but his favourite 'sing-along' band is probably Vixen (he and Gray have had karaoke/hairbrush moments in the van to Cryin' many, many, many times). Recoil is a favourite because of the 'old' Hammersmith Wilder wolf giving him a copy of subHuman when he was staying at the Sussex compound with his handler family when he was 17 and he often plays it to calm himself down. Stormzy he likes vibing to and Blur is a band that Gray introduced him to by accident via the iPod Nano and he's loved them ever since he'd clicked on Charmless Man. ** No, the irony of an Alan FC character of mine liking Alan's music is not lost on me, it's on purpose lmao

Azz + The Puppy Pen

From his birth to the age of seventeen, Azz was raised in the Werewolf Training Centre's 'Puppy Pen' before being released to a handler family at the age of seventeen to learn how to integrate with wider society. Separated from his birth parents, who weren't even allowed to interact with him on the morning of his birth, Azz got his first name, Aralt (Irish, meaning 'leader'), from the Puppy Pen's human handlers. He wouldn't get his last name until he was fostered to his handler family at seventeen years old. The naming system in the Puppy Pen is similar to how Guide Dog litters are named, ie: each litter is given a name that begins with a specific letter of the alphabet. Azz happened to have been put with a 'litter' of werewolf pups under the A cycle of naming. His entire childhood was spent within the confines of the WTC's fencing aside from one lone Saturday at the age of thirteen when he and his 'litter' were accompanied by three adult humans, a single adult werewolf, and six armed WTC guards (human/demon/vampire/witches) to visit a museum as part of their education. He was never abused there, unlike many other werewolves had been, but he knew and understood that it could have changed for him at any given time should he have 'misbehaved' as a pup. He is very well aware of how humans especially treat werewolves, and what he'd witnessed at the WTC as a child is, in part, why he ended up joining the Howling Crescent werewolf activist group. Aside from one, Tyson Montgomery (who had changed his name from Avalon after he'd been released from his handler family at the age of twenty-one), Azz doesn't keep in touch with any of his twelve littermates. He'd been told about a few of them having died before they ever got to leave the WTC's grounds at the hands of a human guard and he makes a point of remembering them every year on the date he'd been told about it (October 15th). The only 'good' memories he has of the Pen are of playing outside in the 'Fields' with his littermates, Christmases, and birthdays. It was the only time the human handlers were ever especially kind to the pups they were charged with. On his fifth birthday, Azz was given a plush wolf that he named Wally and he still has it to this day. On his fifteenth birthday, he had been given a Green Day CD (the pups shared a CD player in their shared bedroom) and his legally mandatory shock collar, which has since been jerry-rigged so that it won't shock him but would still appear to be 'active' on government systems. He left the Pen to join his handler family the day after his seventeenth birthday, and, outside of with Tyson, he tends to keep the topic of his upbringing quiet because it causes problems with his post-Cerberus PTSD symptoms.
