What airplane trained the first men that Flew the SR 71?
There was no simulator. They just had to get in the SR 71 and fly it.
The Mach 2. B- 58 was the airplane.
All of the men were flying it when they were asked to leave the B 58 program joining the SR 71 program in 1965.
A huge secret was that the B 58 could be used for reconnaissance. My Dad talks about that in his book “Ohio to Supersonic.”

14 September 1962. Major Fitzhugh L. Fulton, U.S. Air Force, flew the Convair B-58A-10-CF Hustler 59-2456 Mach 2+ strategic bomber, with a full weapons load, to an altitude of 16.2 miles over Edwards Air Force Base, California.

21 March 1962. Following manned tests at 565mph on 28 February, high speed tests of an escape capsule fitted to the Convair B58A Hustler were undertaken. A bear named 'Yogi' was ejected from a Convair B58A 'Hustler' at 870mph and landed safely.
