You've mentioned in previous posts that Lucifer is afraid of Dia's dad. Is it because of his influence or power or was there a certain event that caused it?
Ba'el is just sort of a scary motherfucker and anyone with two braincells to run together ought to be afraid of him.
But more specifically, Ba'el is an obstacle that Lucifer knows he can't overcome. In every arena Ba'el has the upper hand-- power wise, politically, etc.
In Lanterns of Light au, Lucifer's main plan is to basically put Dia on the throne and run the devildom with Dia as a puppet king, and the main person who could make that plan obsolete is Ba'el.
Ba'el is like God, except Ba'el doesn't hide any of the awful things he does, and actually revels in it. So...
Oh, also, Ba'el (before his big nap) definitely killed an ate a peafowl (raw, delicately) while making eye contact with Lucifer over the dinner table while idly making conversation about how Paymon (Diavolo) has always been such a sweet, dear child, really just the most precious little devil a parent could ask for, and he'd hate to see anyone... disturb that. Right? You know? Of course you do, little Lucifer. Of course you do, you have so many little siblings, you must understand.... : )
