BA2a Motion Graphics Evaluation
This project has been a really interesting one to work on, I have enjoyed working in a group and the people in that group, who were all hardworking and cooperated well with each other. We didn’t have anyone who slacked off, everyone pulled their weight, especially towards the end when there was a big rush to finish. I think we were a little indecisive because we are all quite polite and didn’t want to be a dictator. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing because we did get on well, however, it meant that we didn’t come up with the key elements of the animated sequence until quite late. I think what we should have done was assign a role for each member of the group based on what they had done thus far in the second week, so that we could have cohesive elements throughout, while still having everyone do something towards the end product. I also would have liked to have tried experimenting in Adobe Illustrator because the assets that other groups created looked really clean, however, our group now stand out as being more of a hand drawn piece of animation that is more personal.
In terms of my individual development in this project, I looked at a variety of research sources that helped me visualise and contextualise my narrative beat that was still cohesive to the other group member’s animated beats. I think I took a kind of leadership role in this project to get everyone organised, for example arranging meet ups and communicating with all of them throughout, to check on their progress and make sure it’s cohesive, especially in the last week. Hopefully no one thought I was controlling too much! I took on quite a bit of the group work myself in the end because I was a head of most of my group mates, so the step mother transformations, group experimentation reel and the text in the beats were done by me. However, the work caught up with me so I got quite behind with my blog work. In the next project, that gives us a limited amount of time, I would like to make a plan for the weeks ahead to have more of idea on what I should be finishing each week, completing the project in good time.
Overall I am very pleased with my animated beat which was exactly what I wanted, and I am proud of what our group has created on a whole too. The animated sequence is clear, well-illustrated, well executed with creative transitions and narration that pulls the story along, whilst sticking to the Fairy Tale format. I would like to continue to animate in After Effects in the future because, in the end, it felt very rewarding animating this way. However, next time I would love to try creating my assets in Adobe Illustrator to really get those clean and clear visuals in my animation.
