@metalraindrops AN EXTREMELY BELATED STARTER
As far as the Rookie knew, there were few to no reports of ships ever attempting to Jump while so close to a planet- as in, beneath the atmosphere. Yet, here it was happening... with him still caught in the air. Oh, something was bound to go wrong... and the Rookie had a strong feeling that the wrong would be done to him. The light from the slipspace rupture grew so bright that he had to tint his visor dark as it could go yet even then- white and purple burned his retinas while the very air seemed to tremble around his pod. Not the usual turbulence of the fall- but quaking with energy about to be released. In the span of six seconds, hell broke loose. More than it had already, anyways.
As the Covenant Carrier was wisked away to an unknown destination, it left the world behind it a gift of ruin. The pods flying down into the city were thrown drastically off course and for the first time in YEARS, the Rookie felt his stomach clench in anxiety. Especially when he saw Mickey’s pod making a beeline for his... Shit!
The force of the collision rattled his teeth and the ODST was sent spiralling into the city- catching a glimpse of a different shape falling past the pods of his teammates. But he couldn’t think about it- not now, when there was a good chance of this being his last moment alive unless he could stabilize his pod for landing. Unbeknownst to him, it was an exact 99.99% chance this would be his death. Hands pulling at the levers controlling his descent into hell, they had almost no effect. ’ Come on, come on! ‘
The view of the outside was nothing more than a whirl of slate and sky, with slate of the sky scrapers overtaking his vision... until blackness was all he saw.
Six hours later, he blearily woke to a pounding headache and a blue light in his sight that was... way too bright for him right now. A hand raises to block the ray of light from his eyes while he collects his thoughts [ not to mention his senses ] only to realize something was... kind of off. The light was... watching him? Objects surrounding it shifting like the narrowing of an eye. And someone was talking- shit, how long had he been out? He can barely make out the clock on his HUD, especially since the numbers are blue... against blue light.
He wasn’t dead, right?
