This isn't exactly cultural appropriation, but it's something I'm unsure about. Why is a Korean actor playing a Chinese character seen as more offensive than an English actor playing a German or Russian character?

Because a person of Korean decent doesn't look like a Chinese person. That's not the same thing at all.

You could say that a character played by a Korean actor is from China, but that doesn't make the Chinese in the same way.

Men aren't a homogenous group, though. Not to "#notallmen", but guys who want to wear makeup, act femme, and break away from traditional masculine roles are absolutely not the same men who enforce gender roles on people. A conservative culture (or patriarchy) is to blame, not men as a gender.

this just in: men are still men even when they do feminine things. they still benefit from male privilege, they have still been systematically taught to be misogynists because our entire culture hates women, they are not exempt from discussions of sexism. you can't disconnect individuals from institutions. you can't say bullshit like "patriarchy is the problem, not men" because guess who created, orchestrates, perpetuates, and benefits from patriarchy? men! whaddya know!!!

next up at eleven: how many messages can I get from people pretending they're not saying "not all men" when that's exactly what they're saying?

Black Prairie has a short tour coming up in September. 

Colin retweeted a guest singer’s pictures of the studio, which said their was going to be a choir features in one of their songs. 

Colin appeared in that Bob Mould video. 

Jenny’s been playing with The Delines on one of their albums. (She’s tweeted about it a few times.)

Colin’s scheduled to appear at Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland on September 8th. 

There’s this artice, re: the choir guy’s tweet, that just says a Decemberists album is “slated to come out 2015”. And also that he’s “sworn to secrecy” on the details.
