White House Down (2013)

I’ve resisted posting models that appear in a snowglobe. They seemed more like ornaments but if you consider that it sort of miniature model of an idealized place or memory, it could be added to the list.

There’s also a very ornate birdhouse similar to the one in Witness (1985).

Ocean’s Eleven (2001)

While watching it again recently, I noticed a model I missed. There’s a model of the hotel Terry Benedict is going to build in the place of the one he demolishes.

The Lovely Bones (2009)

So many models and model builders in this movie. George Harvey (Stanley Tucci) builds dollhouses in his free time. It appears as if he does this to suppress his need to kill. He has absolute control of the miniature sets and houses he builds. In one scene, it is implied that he could use the dollhouses to lure potential victims.

There are several scenes where miniature objects reference or transition to the next scene in the story. The models definitely play a supporting role in this movie. They aren’t merely props or set decoration, but rather integral to the story and storyboard. 

Another scene I quite enjoyed, was when Detective Fenerman (Michael Imperioli) and George have a conversation while trying to make eye contact through the windows and openings in the dollhouse.

Jack Salmon (Mark Wahlberg) builds miniature models as well. He however does is in an attempt at building a bond between him and his daughter.
