turn out Carol was an anim exclusive character and wan't in the original manga. But it nice calls out and very short but at least Usopp got the iconic goggles.

Nash’s words struck Shade’s heart. He’d been considering the same broad idea—though he had no doubt that that specific tool would never in a thousand generations cross Nash’s mind.

Shade almost laughed, but then he saw that Nash was serious. It shocked him that Nash could for one moment entertain such a ridiculous--borderline treasonous--notion.
