Let's talk about Ken's business instincts. When we meet him, he's already spent at least three years working with his dad (think about how that must have been). We know he's been learning (because Logan mocked him for it), and spent a year in Shanghai.
When Logan gets sick Ken's the one thinking rationally about what is the best way to save the company, even if it also "serves his interests". And he saves the company (he couldn't know that Stewy would betray him). He was savvy during Pierce negotiations, helping to calm Connor etc. (and convinced Naomi!). He helped to ensure deal with Sandi and Stewy. GoJo was his idea.
Actually Ken makes the most cringy and bad business decisions when Logan berates him, and unfortunately, in consequence, Ken tries to emulate his dad to prove him that he's a killer that he would want him to be: bear hug (it looks like Ken decided to do it after realizing that his dad thought he was weak), the call with the bank, trash talking Lawrence, overpaying for Vaulter.
And yeah, Vaulter. I am in awe of the fact that Ken always kept his cool in front of Lawrence. He ignored his unprofessional and offensive behavior (he insulted him even when Ken tried to save them!), because he knew that Vaulter was a way to set company on the path to the future. Imagine Shiv or Roman pulling that - yeah right.
Ken has actually been working, he put in the hours, he was invested. He had good instincts and wanted to do good things. And Logan saw it, and felt threatened.
But - Ken is bad at human / business interactions, and that's his biggest weakness. He is always meandering between being himself (vulnerable, nice, awkward guy) and pretending to be: his father / cool / emotionless.
Round 1
Which is the better episode of Succession?
1.02 - Shit Show at the Fuck Factory
2.02 - Vaulter
i think one of the most underrated yet deeply telling tomshiv scenes is when they have dinner with roman and tabitha in vaulter. it's been said that shiv and tom's affection for each other and/or the original dynamic is based in the fact that they judge people together, and in that scene it becomes clear that for tom it's a specific loyalty that comes first, and for shiv it's just the concept of bonding. she readily switches loyalties even so far as to be the one bullying her own husband with just 3 other people present, bc the bullying is something she enjoys independnt of anything else. they come from different directions and for a while were able to bond at one specific point, but then they kept moving in opposite directions and simply tried to ignore the fact. and it's portrayed so simply but so well by that one fucking scene. hey shiv, fuck off. and shiv looks to her brother and grins because it doesn't matter that tom is hurt, it matters that someone is in her corner, whoever it is.
My sibling demands I finish succession everyday day but Everytime I watch Kendall during the Vaulter meeting in Season 1 Episode 1 I know I can’t watch more knowing the character will get worse.
