This is the timeout paradox: both paths lead to failure. The difference is the path you take determines whether you see it coming.

This #Nissan #xtrail came in as a #nonrunner due to the #dpf being so badly blocked! We measured the #backpressure on start up before it cut out which was 18psi!!! We made the decision that with 190,000 miles on the clock a dpf #carbonclean would be the best long term solution. We removed the dpf, filled it with our carbon clean cleaning solution and then hooked it up to our #dcs16 machine... it took a couple of shots to get the air/water flowing through easily! We ended up putting 25 litres through leaving it spotless and ready for another 100,000+ miles👍 The after picture shows the back pressure right down to 0.5psi and starting & #running as it should. And best of all it was all done, ready for collection in a day☺️ #nwautoservicesltd #ellesmereport #instapic #dpffix #fixed #runner #noproblem #4x4 #doneinaday #fun #wirral #wirrallife #bestwirral (at NW Auto Services Ltd, Cheshire) https://www.instagram.com/p/Btep2SlnDS7/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=18bhztutq7yv6

A simple and elegant backpressure design
It's days like this where I love my job. I'm implementing back pressure for API calls that communicate to an external service. Depending on how overloaded the external service is, my API interface adapts to use caching more extensively, or to use a service friendly request retry strategy, minimizing impact on infrastructure and possibly even resolving problems when they occur. This is done by keeping track of a lot of data - timeouts, error responses, request duration, ratios between failed and successful requests,...
It's a nice day when I have problems like this.
