Support this series!
The backstagers! It’s a comic about techies and magic!
It’s an all boys school, and it’s amazing.
The main character is a black bisexual boy! Out of the four supporting characters only two are white, one is mixed and one is middle eastern (I think, it’s what’s most commonly said).
Jory- main character, black, bisexual, artist, new to the school
Beckett- main supporting, mixed race, trans boy, straight, runs the lighting and audio board.
Aziz- main supporting, middle eastern(?), token cis/het, Sasha’s best friend.
Sasha- main supporting, white, sexuality unknown, childish and lighthearted absolutely adorable little man.
Hunter- main supporting, white, gay man, loves drills and set construction.
So if you are a theater nerd looking for an amazing comic, please check it out, it has a huge lack of application and the next book comes out in April!
And if you’re thinking to yourself, “this sounds cool but i’m not a comic person”
Great! There’s a novel as well!
Both the comics and the book set up such an amazing and accepting universe. The art and pot are amazing please check it out!
The Cover Art Of Veronica Fish
Free comic book 2018 at vault of midnight Detroit! Saw some cool cosplays
I really liked Backstagers volume 1 (and Giant Days shout-out to @saintdeanthomas for the rec). The art is fun and pretty and I really love all the characters, they feel so cool and distinctive. It's also really cool to see how important their relationships are to the boys. If I had any complaints it would be that the Veronica Fish covers throw me off slightly, I like some of her other work but Jory and to a lesser extent Hunter weren't really recognizable to me on her covers.
My favorite comic at the comic shop is The Backstagers, a magic-and-mystery YA tale about stage crew at a high school penciled by Rian Sygh. The lead and other main characters are LGBT, the colors are beautiful to the level of nebulae and clouds from outer space, and it’s been heralded as an antidote to the hypermasculinity that a lot of comics about male characters suffer from. Please check it out and if you can’t get enough Rian Sygh has a patreon TOO! And here is his site. Please reblog this if you can, I want my favorite comic and favorite professional comic artist getting some spotlight here!
