Saturday, April 14, enjoy one of #DC's largest spectator events, the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade presented by Events DC. The parade runs for 10 blocks along iconic Constitution Avenue NW. From the National Archives to the Washington Monument, the pageantry and excitement of the Nation's premier springtime parade wows spectators. Giant helium balloons, elaborate floats, marching bands from across the country, and celebrity entertainers and other performers animate the Parade route. Celebrity Chef Carla Hall (ABC-TV's The Chew) is the parade's Grand Marshall. A happy birthday to our friends and affiliates at @arenastage. DC's regional theater opened Aug 16, 1950. (left to right) Edward Mangum, Zelda Fichandler and Albert Berkowitz. Mangum joined forces with Zelda Fichandler, a student of his, during his first teaching job at George Washington University, and Thomas Fichandler, her husband, to co-found this attempt to create "a living stage" for "drama-hungry playgoers outside of the 10 blocks of Broadway." They secured an old burlesque house -- the Hippodrome Theatre at Ninth and New York -- spruced up the old theatre, and transformed it into a 247-seat, arena-style venue for live drama.
