Oh the rains in San Diego were great for the drought but I have never seen so many weeds as a result. I'm almost done weeding and little by little my vines are surfacing with their spring growth. Tough part is first to have enough energy and motivation to go outside for a couple of hours. Also, I have to be gentle as to not damage any new growth. I have yet to clear the weeds which have engulfed my Mourvèdre vines. Little by little. I'm sooo behind on my pruning. It's budbreak time for the Tempranillo vines and I have yet to clear the weeds from our record rainfall in San Diego. I've pruned half of my Tempranillo and none of my Mourvèdre or Grenache vines. Motivation is a factor but I know I'll get it done fairly soon so I can give them their early spring spraying to ward of the evil powdery mildew. Hacienda Valdez' vintage 2016 is in. I'll have 5 gallons of 100% Grenache and 5 gallons of a 50% Tempranillo, 35% Mourvèdre and 15% Grenache blend. I'll let it settle for a week or two then get rid of the sludge and add some oak for 3 to 6 months.
