Bactrosaurus is one of the best known and earliest hadrosauroids, dating back to 90 million years ago, in the Turonian age of the Late Cretaceous. However, it also lasted a long time, living to 70 million years ago, in the Maastrichtian age of the Late Cretaceous. It was about 6 meters long and 2 meters tall on all fours, weighing 1.1 to 1.5 tonnes. It used to be considered a Lambeosaurine, however it has since been found to be more primitive than that; and though there are reports of having a crest, it is inconclusive as to whether or not the structures thought to be the base of one are or not. Evidence of tumors have been found in Bactrosaurus skeletons, which may have been caused by the environment or through genetic inheritance. Bactrosaurus is known from the Gobi Desert of China, specifically the Dabasu Formation, and it had large club like neural spines on some of its vertebrae.
