STUDYING MOOMINVALLEY

A Hemulen is another troll that lives in Moominvalley, however they are rather unique from the others. A hemulen has a longer snout with the mouth placed at the lower tip rather than the side. They also have no visible ears, instead having two flaps of something similar to hair on the sides of their heads. I was informed that they hear from these, so their ears just don’t really look like typical troll ears. They are also significantly taller, some growing to stand at around 5’8” or even 6 feet. All Hemulens wear clothes, also contrasting with the other trolls. They are quite odd creatures.
Their diet is the same as every other troll and their language developed along with Moomins and Snorks, but they prefer to do their fishing on boat with either a rod or a net. Moomins can use rods too but most prefer to stay by the riverside or on the shore, as they fear of drifting away into the unknown. Moomins have become homebodies after all. They also grow their own vegetables, but they build their own greenhouses out of seaglass and metal. Hemulens believe greenhouses are more efficient than growing outside, as the light, CO2 and everything else it needs is captured and absorbed more easily. Moomins believe outside is more efficient because they believe nature thrives best in the soil and land it is most used to, and not something artificial. I can’t help but agree with them.
Hemulens came into the valley with the others who followed after. The first Hemulen however arrived during the comet’s almost-hitting-of-the-earth. I personally couldn’t keep track of them, as immediately after way more Hemulens showed up and I just eventually forgot about him. Hemulens are societal creatures who rank as high as police inspectors or superintendents. They are mostly serious creatures and steer away from anything too eccentric or out of their nature, but I have indeed met my fair share of frivolous Hemulens. Hemulens can have romantic attraction, but only seem interested to date or have a family when they get older, mainly out of their prime so that earlier on in life they can focus more on working for themselves until they no longer can. That is when they decide to settle down. They used to be able to communicate through horse-like sounds, for the structure of their mouths don’t allow them to whistle. Hemulens all mainly have jobs that they dedicate themselves to dearly. But this can be damaging for them, as I have witnessed myself in the South. A Hemulen who loses their job will fall into a state of crisis and panic. This will slowly spiral into a depression if they are unable to obtain a new job or hobby. And, devastatingly, will lead to them taking their own lives. It’s utterly heartbreaking to witness, as is any other creature dying, but it’s much more upsetting to know that this could have been prevented.
A Hemulen’s fur starts off short, much different to other trolls. This is because of how much they work and their reproductive needs. Work on the body causes sweating, and if a creature who works for almost their entire life has long fur, this can cause overheating and fainting. Luckily, Hemulens have got shorter fur, so that they don’t get too hot and that they are able to cool down easier. In a reproductive sense, they don’t have children until beyond their prime, so when they go past this prime age, their fur begins to grow longer. This is how they know that it is time to settle down.
The peacefulness of a Hemulen is rather high, but some can be rather strict or energetic. The energetic one is hard to come across however, but not the strict ones. Sadly, I know of a girl who turned invisible because of a Hemulen who was so cold and hard on her. She reminds me of myself, except the Hemulen is the world. Hard, cold, pressuring you to be something or someone you don’t want to be. That’s why I ran away. Pressure

By cutting wages by 100% and by extending worker hours in utterly unsafe conditions and casually executing those who resisted his rules, Reaver became the king’s greatest asset’

Insecurities: The loss of his family, village and lover due to his deal with the shadow court for immortality seems to have left him incapable of attachments or genuine relationships. His continuous use of sarcastic humour could be seen as a forefront to hide the painful burden he bears from this memory.
Phobias: Death and ageing. Although he has stated the sacrifice he must offer to the shadow court every year for immortality to be becoming more of a ‘burden’ as time passes- suggesting a lessening of the desire to live eternally.

He brings a cane with him most places, He wear tops hats with a steampunk theme pair of goggles wrapped around them, an accessory to emphasise his position as head of industry in the kingdom along with his style of bow ties. Reaver takes great pride in his clothes, dare to dirty them and he’ll likely have you shot.
