SETTING: Among the candy aisle of a store.
(She walked slowly in the candy aisle of the small store, eyeing each type of candy.)
(Walks into the same aisle as Rose, seeing chocolate near the start of aisle.)
(Near the end of the aisle she hears footsteps and spots Collin nearing the middle of the aisle. She smiles as she walks to towards him.)
Hey there Collin! I haven’t seen you in a while, how’ve ya been?
(Stops looking at candy and turns to the side to see Rose.)
Oh hey! Haha, you’re right. Y’know, same stuff as usual. How about you?
I’ve been good too. Whatcha doing here?
(Collin grabs a package off the shelf to look at it.)
Just came to buy a few things I wanted. I can assume you’re doing the same?
Of course! Though, you don’t really act the way you usually do. What’s wrong?
(Sets down the bag of candy, and proceeds to grab a different one near it while Rose is talking. After hearing what she says he sets it back down and looks at her.)
We are in a store right now. Do you really think this is a good place to talk about this?
(Rose looks around the aisle and leaves the aisle a bit to check for people. She returns seconds later and appears on the other side of the aisle from where she once was.)
Looks good to me! Now tell me!
(Looks at Rose, sighs and returns to looking at candy.)
(Makes a visibly clear pouty face.)
(Whistles ignoring Rose.)
(Rose walks and stands in front of Collin, gently removing the candy from his hands. She looks up at him.)
Well? Are you going to tell me?
I guess I can’t avoid it now, huh?
Well, my depression has been getting to me again. I guess.
Why don’t you just go outside then?
In order to feel better, it’s better you just go outside and take walks! Maybe that’s why you’re so dull, along with all the black you wear!
I don’t think you’re really understandi-
I do understand! I get sad too y’know.
Yeah, I know. But I feel like you’re not understanding.
The what about those “happy pills” you take, huh?
Yeah? My antidepressants?
You’re not understanding that’s for anxiety so I can calm do-
Sh! Just go outside more, okay? Also those clothes you wear- You need more color.
I am trying to get better believe it or not. It takes more than the outdoors to help.
Y’know whatever ya say Collin..
(She grabs some candy and begins to slowly leave the aisle.)
(Collins looks confused at Roses sudden attitude change as she leaves.)
(Rose finally exits the aisle, a store cleric is staring at her.)
(Grabs the bag of candy Rose made him put down and walks out visibly upset.)
A very rushed play because I had an idea, but no idea on how to proper express said idea. I hate this eek. Like I’ve experienced being given advice such as “Just go outside.” with the person being unknown as to how to deep I’ve actually sunk- So for some people it just doesn’t help, especially when you are already outside as is. Like each person is different so this might help, but majority of the time there’s things you just shouldn’t tell people. It’s like telling someone with anxiety “Oh, just get over it.”
