Encyclopedia of Badassery - Addendum! Here we have an artist’s rendering of The Other Magpie, of the Crow Nation. Described as ‘a wild one who had no man of her own...both bad and brave,’ she rode into battle against the US Army and their Lakota allies in 1876 to avenge her dead brother, armed with only a belt knife and a coup stick. The Other Magpie worked in tandem with Osh-Tisch (mentioned in a previous EoB entry), spitting at the enemy and shouting, ‘See!? My spit is my arrows!’ She broadsided a Lakota warrior with her horse, struck him with her coup stick, and after Osh-Tisch shot him, took his scalp. TOM returned to her village, and divvied up the scalp among her fellow fighters, so that all could participate in the ceremonial Scalp Dance that followed. #encyclopediaofbadassery #crownation #theothermagpie #myspitismyarrows #badandbrave #countingcoup #coolestnameever
