His anger didn’t seem to phase her—but in reality it did. She knew he wasn’t a bad guy,  she knew this the first time she started working with him. Once in a while she would find him smiling at something she said or even seen a spark in his eye. But most of the time she saw the gruff man who would come into work  seemingly tired froma rough night. And tonight, she caught him in the act.

In truth, she too had a hard day and the thought of having a few drinks to calm her nerves seemed like a good idea. Juli wasn’t surprised to see the man sitting alone, but she couldn’t help but feel heartbroken by the sight of him. He seemed pitiful as he sat there alone.

By his attitude it seemed like he wanted to be alone, but something inside of her told her to stay, even though he refused to go.

Juli shrugged and sat in a stool next to him and downed the drink she took from him.

“Can I have a whiskey water?” She waved down the bartender.  

He casts her a passing look before he turns his head back to stare ahead into nothingness. He didn’t ask for company, and his whole posture shows that it is unwanted, but her sitting there and having a drink is still better than her taking away his drinks. He has paid for them after all, and he desperately needs them right now.

The barkeeper brings their order, placing one glass in front of each one of them before leaving them to themselves again. He is of the sort that doesn’t ask many questions while serving his goods, and that’s why Sebastian likes him.

Unfortunately though, with Kidman beside him, he feels almost watched. As much as she’s sticking to the rules with no room for creativity, she’s probably scolding him in her head for drinking this much when there’s work tomorrow. She has no clue why he’s even here. Without giving her a chance to raise their glasses at each other, he down almost half of his whiskey before at least turning towards her.

“Didn’t take you for the whiskey type, Kidman.” Small talk. How he hates it. But if that’s what she wants and if it makes her leave him alone eventually, fine.

The streets of Union were a strange yet familiar place. While there wasn’t quite as many civilians roaming around as there were in Gotham, the whole atmosphere made it feel like home. The work MOBIUS had done to create this sort of ‘singular utopia’ was mildly impressive. Despite this, Jason knew that this was not the place for him to be long-term. All they had required of him for the time being was his services to STEM’s security detail. 

As his stroll continued, Jason was too busy in his own thoughts to notice that the amount of foot traffic in the area had dwindled dramatically. Almost as if he was the only one there now. Reaching over to a radio mounted on his shoulder, he clicked a button before speaking. “Kidman, I need you to have a look around where I am. Sector 76.”

After STEM

♔—- Escaping STEM had been a literal nightmare. Not only did he have to relive the horrors that his own memories could produce, he had to endure the terrors that came from other people who were locked within the blasted contraption. If he were honest with himself, he still wasn’t entirely convinced that he’d truly pulled himself out of STEM. How many times did he wake up, thinking that he’d detached himself from the infernal contraption, only for him to find that he was still lost in the endless loop of the distorted past?

     But he’d gone a few week without incident. Nothing randomly changed, sending him spiraling into a different setting with a different sort of monster chasing after him. Everything seemed calm and normal and he was very much in control of himself, something that he couldn’t always attest to when he was trapped inside STEM.

     Whether or not he fully believed he escaped from STEM, he hadn’t really decided upon yet, but he knew one thing for certain. There was one person inside STEM who did everything she could to ensure that he escaped, that he was safe until he could pull himself from that dream-like world, and since he found his way back to the real world, he couldn’t stop thinking about her. Julie Kidman had been his only friend within STEM and no matter how much he wanted to leave Krimson City--and Midgard altogether--he couldn’t bring himself to leave without making sure she was all right.

     His search for Julie came up short for a couple of weeks. He couldn’t get a solid trail on her or anyone that she knew. He was beginning to wonder if she even existed. Had Julie been a person trapped in STEM? Had she been a figment of his imagination? Was she one of the creatures that inhabited that plane?

     Eventually, he found himself right back at the building he woke up in. The STEM was still set up there, but no bodies sat within the pods. The machine didn’t look like it’d been operational in quite some time. Someone must have busted it up pretty badly, but it left him to wonder... How many people had been hooked up to that contraption? And were any of them still alive? 

     He went further into the building, hoping that he’d come across someone, anyone that he might be able to question, though he was prepared for confrontation. Should he need to defend himself, he was ready.

“A detective, aren’t you? I can tell. You aren’t one of them either, nor have the tattoo of a familiar... and you aren’t waving a gun at me. Good change of pace from what I’m used to. What’s your name, detective, and what are you doing out here at this hour?”

This was the woman that He was interested in?

Jealousy coiled itself inside her chest, long fingers twitching in anticipation. The attention He paid her was more out of curiosity than infatuation. Still, it irked her to have Him think of anyone else other than her. 

Ever the loyal creation, she went wherever He desired it. When He desired it. Screams of lesser creatures echoed in the distance. A symphony of pain. She tried to focus on the faint clicking of heels until she heard subtle splashes ripple inside her mind. 

Striking out, a claw wrapped around each limb, she emerged from the pool saturated in red. A shrill howl reverberated throughout the room.

"I need a hug..."

Sitting on the couch with her legs tucked underneath her, Laura shifted to see the brunette standing behind her. Confusion flittered across her pale features as she swiped her ebony tresses away from her face to the back of her head. One look at those bright violet eyes that usually shone through everything and her heart sank. “Juli…?”

Gently placing the now closed book on the glass coffee table, she stood up and rushed over towards the young detective, cupping her cheeks in both hands. “What’s the matter?” she urged, icy blue eyes searching her face. “You’re never like this.” Removing her hands from Juli’s face her arms snaked around the woman’s slender neck and pulled her in.
