It's been a really rough few days in the fandom. :(
It is unfortunate that a sizeable amount of people are choosing to direct their anger this way. Aventika will likely become a direct enemy sometime down the line, for sure, and it's likely they'll try to kill her then, but TM9 killing Avantika because she's evil and/or a threat to them eventually is a far cry from murder fantasies spurned from misdirected anger and a feeling of entitlement to Fjord's body or affections.
Neither Avantika nor Fjord is a fair or deserving target of ire on Jester's behalf. Fjord's his own person, and he made his own decision. This particular one we can't be sure of the motivations for yet (although many have their theories) and it may have consequences for the group, so he will certainly have to answer for that. But he does not owe an explanation to Jester, nor does Avantika deserve punishment for this specifically.
i wasn’t going to kick up too much of a fuss (though i appreciate folks’ replies, i’m glad i’m not alone in how skeevy and wrong this all feels) but this reply was too good to let sit in my notifications, because literally. literally this.
the canon story is what it is and i know this fandom can be awful and entitled, but the genuinely unavoidable prevailing fan attitude that avantika should be punished for what she and fjord chose to do via a swift, justified(??!??!) death at the hands of someone fjord seems to trust but not particularly like, just because she’s made advances towards him (all of which he’s rebuffed) is like... it’s as you say: Really Rough.
and like you implied, there are totally reasons to be worried about what that decision means for the story (i’m pretty worried about how little worth fjord seems to view himself/his body with, because i want him to be okay, lol), but a) none of those reasons are good enough to be ranting for avantika’s death like a spoiled toddler and b) shipping is absolutely not a damn reason for that, like what the hell. i haven’t totally had the loving/accepting experience with this fandom that gets touted around, but this feels extreme even to me.
