Bad Fandom?
Today I will make one that's a lot more different that my other journals. I felt like I couldn't hold this charge on me, so I decided it and I came up here to explain my point of view of the certain fandom that is mentioned on the title. As you might know, the Yu-Gi-Oh! Fandom is quite big, for what I saw and heard about it. I almost wanted to be part of it once, to know about dueling and making strategies, and talking with others about the anime and things that we could like or not, and to make friends. But I shall be honest, when I saw what it was the dark side of this fandom, I instantly regretted my choice. Which I'll list the reasons of it. But first, I'd like to reveal good points I have, in my point of view, and in my experience. 1- You Meet Good People- I met a few good people of said fandom in a few sites (here on DeviantART and Duel Amino). The people I met were really nice and helpful too. Little by little I started to learn about choosing cards and dueling thanks to them (it is still a challenge), but it's fun. I even get to talk with them about the anime and what we think of it and its characters. I get to joke with them about some of them, it makes it more fun to spend time with them. 2- Getting To See Different Points Of Views- I get to see different opinions from my friends and new people I met, and I started to respect them. I learned with them to see how others think differently. And what it was surprising, was to see that I had things in common with them, and that we liked some same things. I still don't understand about some stuff in dueling, but I will get help from a few soon. Still, it is really good I start to respect their opinions and see what they think, not just me, though. 3- Learning Interesting Things About Cards and Dueling- As I said before, I'm still learning about dueling. But due to what a few explained to me about a few tips and things at the moment of a duel, I got to see how complicated this card game can be, but also interesting as well. For the moment my favorite decks are: Photon, Cyberse, Salamangreat, Highdrive, Altergeist, and finally, Speedroid. I saw good and well made reviews about those decks, so that is the reason why I like those. I hoped someday to have one of those to learn about it and have fun while dueling. And, who motivated me to duel someday? Well, a few characters (well, Yusaku Fujiki inspired me the most at the moment) and mostly a friend who has got a deck with Cyberse cards. He woke up my interest on having cards, which I had that wish before, but I gave up. However, now with this, I might learn to make my own deck and begin to see what it feels to duel. In other words, I got to learn interesting things about it. But as you know, not everything is pink-colored in there...there are a few bad points about the fandom which I said I would reveal, that will be based on my experience, and in my point of view. 1- Bullies and Pro-Trolls- Just like any fandom, this one has got bullies and trolls (like for example, on here.). But what I mean about pro-trolls, I mean that there are people who think that they are superior and more professional than others in dueling and knowing it all about the cards. I had encounters with that said people, back on duel amino, when I first got in there and made my introduction so everyone could meet me, and said that I'm learning to duel through the Duel Links game, I recieved offensive comments from 'pros' saying it's shit that I play such a bad game, that I'm a scrub, and such. That is something I never liked from there, and I even decided to give up and leave. 2- Unnecessary Shippings- This is something I always disliked from the fandom itself. The unnecessary shippings and arguing for nothing from the obsessive fans, including the fujoshis going around there, shipping because of their boy x boy fetishes. What it also bothered me, is how they overrate certain characters (one example of that is Blue Angel.). I didn't like how they were shipping the main character of VRAINS with her for no reason, just because they look good (in looks). Look, just because the main character called for an ambulance in an anonymus way, and had a duel against her, and had conversations with her, it doesn't mean he loves her! Yu-Gi-Oh! Is NOT about romance! It's a Shonen type anime, it's action related, with heated, epic duels, tough and dark moments and cool stuff. It goes the same for the fujoshis. They should stop making sexual art, explicit literature content and doujinshi of main characters and antagonists 'doing it'. 3- Obsessive Fans and arguing- What I also disliked from the fandom are the obsessive fans, girls in general, that are with the 'that character is mine, get away from him, you can't like him, I'll kill you if you do!' thing. Girls that turn yandere over fictional characters. That includes yugioh OC's reflecting the same stuff, which I saw before. Fans like this make unnecessary wars against others and make comments that offend others, which I didn't like, and that happens on here the most. It includes the unnecessary arguing too, when someone doesn't agree with a character or a certain part of the game. I didn't agree about Yuzu, and some arc-v fans started throwing crap at me. So, in conclusion... Is The Yu-Gi-Oh! Fandom bad? At that question I can say that, due to my experience, and the points I marked, yes and no. Yes, because I think it's a bad fandom in some terms. The games and anime of it are not bad, it's the people that make it bad, which it gives off a very BAD image to the franchise itself and its content. And no, because, although I had the bad experiences that were no good, I prefer having the good ones I had with really good people, even if I'm not part of the fandom at all. Remember, this was just my opinion, so I would thank you kindly if no one of the fandom insults me for taking this out to the light. I wish you all a nice day/night, wherever you are reading this. Thank you.
