She is small, smaller than he had imagined, and quiet. Oddly quiet, he thinks, for a baby. She does not really cry, her face twists up and her nose goes pink and she squeaks and squirms, but she does not often cry. She gets cold easily, and wriggles restlessly when he puts her down even for a moment.
He swaddles and re-swaddles her, making sure she is snug, but comfortable. He checks her diaper and warms up a bottle -- carefully, as the grocer explained how -- before giving it to her.
She can't hold anything, and her hands move blindly before finding the bottle and him. When her tiny, fragile fingers curl around his large, clumsy ones, his breath pulls from his chest. He has been scared before this day, but looking into the face of this stranger in his arms, he has been so terrified, so thrilled, and so in love.

this year i'm thankful for all my girls in house ardor, especially melissa, because y'all keep me sane and happy and im so incredibly glad i met all of you and became friends with all of you and my friends are so incredibly important to me
i'm also thankful for finally getting on antidepressants that i needed
and i'm thankful for assassins creed, which sounds dumb, but ac is what led me to meet so many of the friends that i hold so dear and every year it has given me something that i had to keep going for and, even though revelations and 3 were disappointments i still hold the series very dear and i am so incredibly happy and thankful that 4 is so good because it got me through a lot of stuff this year and it gives me something to put my mind on when i need something to think of
lastly, i'm thankful for sydney. she's always there when i need her and loves me so much for the way i am and i'm very glad that we worked through all of our issues that we had with each other because it made us both grow as people and now our friendship is stronger than ever
