I don't care if I know Just where I will go 'Cause all that I need is this crazy feeling A rat-tat-tat of my heart
Life always has a funny way of changing people, and Bridgette’s greatest change came when she held her darling little Ami for the first time. Something inside her just shifted, it was as if being a mother had not only lightened her heart, but helped her grow up. For Bridgette, there was nothing that felt more right. Sure, it was a struggle to work and take care of the small child, but there simply wasn’t anything Bridgette would trade it for. A few times she’d been told by friends that being a mother suited her. Bridgette had to agree.
She was lucky that her mother and father were able to watch over Ami while Bridgette worked at the studio, but there were times -- like today -- when something came up and they were unable to. It was a blessing that Bridgette was able to take the four-year-old into work with her. Her students adored her daughter, as did her coworkers. As Bridgette rushed to get the duo ready on time so they didn’t miss their bus, her mind wandered a bit to the newest pianist at the studio.
Things with Félix had been interesting, to say the least. They’d been nothing but civil to each other, but so much had changed since they saw each other back in school. Bridgette was glad to see that he was doing well, and that he didn’t appear to hold a grudge for her foolish teen antics. She’d been smitten with him then. She’d been too caught up in her own selfish desires to realize what he’d wanted until it was far too late to fix anything. However, as her mother liked to put it, life moves on.
It’s Ami that brings Bridgette from her wandering thoughts when the bus stops. Clever as always, she’d recognized the street name and wiggled a bit in excitement, cooing ‘mama’s and ‘hurry’s. Bridgette had only smiled in response and scooped her up, holding her against her hip as they left the bus and made their way to the studio. Once there they had a quick conversation about rules and obeying and being calm. Bridgette handed her the bag with her coloring things and toys. Her own bag was set in a locker, door unlocked just in case Tikki saw the need to leave to prevent Ami from wandering off. Her coworker and friend, Sara, was out of class for a few hours, so she agreed to sit with Ami while Bridgette went to her class.
She returned an hour later for the break she and the dancers took, and was surprised to see Ami coloring at a table while Félix sat across from her, looking a tad awkward. Sara was nowhere to be found, and Bridgette wondered if she’d tactically ditched Bridgette’s daughter with her ex-classmate.
Ami was the first to spot Bridgette, her entire face lighting up with joy. “Mama!” She called, quickly moving from her chair to tackle Bridgette. A soft smile tugged her lips as Bridgette bent, nuzzling her forehead before placing a light kiss there. “Hello, mon minou, were you good?” Ami nodded, wrapping her arms around Bridgette so that she couldn’t stand again. With a slight, embarrassed flush, she looked up at Félix, offering her best smile. “Did Sara leave you with her? I hope she wasn’t bothering you.”
