Breaking the Rules
When Emmet got his powers his mind was filled with a lot of Knowledge in Time travel and he was warned about specific rules before hand.
Seeing as his brother is part of an important historical event , if Emmet was to ever break the rules and not finish his own trials and evens set foward for him and reach Ingo to early in time , a anomaly or paradox happens a fatal one at that , the Timeline corrupts and collapses in on it self leaving Emmet in the void/Distortian world where he is caught and warned by the deity who resides there to not do it again.
As that specific point in time is so Important in the universe that disrupting it causes catastrophic consequences, once thoroughly chastised and warned Emmet learns his lesson and suddenly blacks out then wakes up a few mins before he made the decision to break the rules and stops himself from making that bad timeline again.
