Who offers to get rid of the evidence and body whenever the other starts complaining about someone: larkspur lmao every time demyx is complaining about something larks’ only advice is ‘kill them then’ and demyx is like ‘ALL I WANT IS SYMPATHY Y R U LIKE THIS’ which is 110% of the reason larks keeps saying it obviously

Who shows up at the other’s house with food and movies when the other is having a bad day: probably demyx but like..... in the most angry ‘NOT that i did this because u seemed down i just had these leftover chips or whatever and this is my netflix movie this month it looks stupid anyway. no i didnt know it was your favourite fuck yOU’ because demyx is a Child

Who sends the other tons of videos/phone game requests: larks because they know that dem hates having his notifications cluttered up and they are The Worst

Who glares at the other til they sit down and eat: probably larks bc they’re an athlete so eating is like..... the one self-care thing they are actually on top of

Who stands behind the other and signals to the person arguing with their friend that if the person hurts their friend then they will hunt the person down: honestly they both do and it’s ridiculous and embarrassing

Who starts the war on stealing food from the other: probably demyx out of like honest carelessness and larks is like ‘oh rEALLY SO THAT’S HOW IT’S GOING TO BE’ and like a week later they have built forts to hide their supplies of oreos and funions. it is impossible to reach either of their bedrooms. they have missed work for this

Who comes up with the bad ideas that they will regret in the morning and who stops them/goes with them to keep them from getting into too much trouble: b o t h except that neither of them is good at talking the other out of doing stupid shit and like. they’ve probably gotten each other arrested

Fluff to angst: jasper and Pluto commiserate about their smol children while watching them being silly goofs on the playground (even though they are grown ass adults) from the parents' bench at the park, where they belong.

GEEZ give me a CHALLENGE next time

The third time Pluto gives him a disapproving side-eye, Jasper sighs out an annoyed puff of cigarette smoke and turns to face him. “Did you need something, kid?”

Pluto has the decency to look away, but doesn’t drop the judgey expression. Jasper resists the impulse to roll his eyes. “It’s not really anything,” Pluto says in a voice that makes it very clear that it is Definitely Something, whatever ‘it’ is. “It’s just kind of… weird. To see somebody smoking an entire pack of cigarettes on a children’s playground, I mean.”

Jasper blinks, then huffs out raspy laughter in another cloud of smoke. “You do realize that there is not a single person on this playset under the edge of eighteen, right?” He almost adds ‘and I am not legally responsible for a single one of them,’ but given that he is definitely here to make sure none of them bash their head’s open on the weird rubbery playground floor, that might be pushing it. “I’m fairly certain they’re old enough to resist my corrupting influence.”

“I’m not worried about them,” says Pluto, rolling his eyes. “It’s just–are you even allowed to smoke out here?”

Jasper looks around in mock alarm. “Oh, man, you’re right. I sure hope nobody reports me to the super.” That earns him a bit of a glare, and he grins, pulling the cigarette from between his lips–they’re cracked and dry, these days, probably from the stress of looking after all these fucking kid’s he’s not responsible for–to tap the ash onto the metal bench next to his leg. “Seriously, relax. We are outdoors and this building’s smoking policy is about as up-to-date as its plumbing. Also, worrying about any regulations in this building is going to turn the rest of your hair white. Pets aren’t allowed here either, and I am one hundred percent certain that Chorus is trying to hatch chicks in her bathtub right now.”

“I wondered why she keeps asking to use our shower,” Pluto says with what appears to be dawning horror, but then he shakes his head and ignores Jasper’s clumsy attempt to change the subject. “But that’s–not really what i meant, anyway.” Pluto frowns meditatively at the young adults chasing each other around like idiots. Spike and Will are still having a cheerful argument about politics while perched on top of the playground’s tower, which is fine until one of them wants to get down; but Larkspur, Imagerie and Chorus seem to be trying to find out how many people they can fit onto a single child’s swing and it’s going to be a pain in the ass to fix if they break the swingset. Or each other.

“Felicity called you ‘dad’ yesterday,” Pluto says suddenly. Jasper drops his head into his hands.

“She did not,” he says half-heartedly.

“She did,” Pluto says firmly. “Out loud. With her mouth. She didn’t even catch it at first until Demyx laughed at her. She said, ‘Dad yelled at me for putting Greenpeace posters all over the hallways again,’ like it was a thing that made sense to say.”

“I am not old enough to be her father,” Jasper moans into his hands, which is actually like the fourth biggest problem he has with this entire clusterfuck, but it is the one that makes him feel the least like throwing up, so. 

Neither of them speak for a few moments after that. Jasper takes a long, nervous drag and wonders if the silence is awkward or if it’s just him.

“It’s just,” Pluto says after a moment, sounding annoyed. “You’re always trying to get people to eat better, and stuff, but you don’t actually take very good care of yourself.” He says this very fast, like he’s trying to outrun his better judgement. Jasper blinks at him, because for a second he’s legitimately not sure what Pluto is talking about.

“Everything you put into your body is trash,” Pluto says severely, and Jasper is shaking with laughter before he’s even fully processed his own thoughts.

“What?” Pluto demands, instantly going red. “I’m serious, all you eat is fast food and ramen--”

Jasper folds over, holding his stomach. “It’s not even--you’re not even wrong,” he tries between gasps. “You just sounded so much like this friend I used to have--”

Silex is dead, his brain helpfully reminds him. Jasper’s laughter dries up kind of suddenly.

Pluto is giving him a very odd look, and Jasper shakes the grief away before it gets too thick to see through. “Ha. Forget it, kid.” Without fully processing the command, Jasper drops a big hand onto Pluto’s head and ruffles the kid’s long hair roughly. It’s something any of his old friends might have done, which is a thought he has to glance at sideways, to keep it from stinging. “Thanks for worrying.”

Pluto’s face gets even redder, but he doesn’t get around to protesting before a loud sound of splintering wood and a long string of explitives erupt from the direction of the overtaxed swing-set. 

Pluto and Jasper sigh in unison, and it takes a little effort for Jasper to keep from being grateful for the distraction.
