It’s D.O.” he said suddenly. “D.O.?” you ask him. “Yeah, rather than Kyungsoo, I feel comfortable if you can call me D.O.” he clarifies. “It feels friendly too,” he continued, smiling. “Oh wow, I’m honoured. Thanks D.O.,” you smiled at him back. After you done with the housekeeping chores, you take a sit at one of the tables, while waiting for customers to arrive. Meanwhile, Kyungsoo suddenly goes to the kitchen. After that, he returns and places a mug in front of you.
“Try it” he said. You take a sip. “Wow, like, what is this?” you’re surprised at the new flavour. “Well, it’s basically coffee, with some new, extra ingredients I haven’t seen on the menu,” Kyungsoo explained. “Really, D.O., this should be placed on the menu,” you still amazed by the new taste. “Glad you like it,” Kyungsoo smiles, then he continues. “Umm…. Y/N, can I ask you something?” You nod. “Are you free…. this, um…. weekend, night?” He hesitantly asked. “Why?” you are being curious.
“Um, if you are free, would you like to watch a movie with me? There’s a new movie coming up this weekend. I feel like watching together would be more exciting,” Kyungsoo explains. You are even more surprised by the invitation. “Sure, let’s go on Sunday night. I’m free that time.” You agreed with his invitation. You thought that this may be one of proper ways to get rid all those whatever strange feelings you had with Baekhyun, since he is your close friend and your manager too. You two didn’t realise that Baekhyun just returned from outside, and he eavesdropped your conversations. Soon after, some customers arrived and all of you resume your work.
However, Baekhyun didn’t feel good about what he just heard. Later that night when closing the café, Kyungsoo goes home first, while you and Baekhyun still in the café managing some things. “Y/N?” Baekhyun calls you. “Yes, boss?” you being cheeky to him, but then you notice that he seems to be in a bad mood. “Baekhyun, what’s wrong? If you show your face like this, means there’s something wrong”, you swiftly asked him. “What’s up with him?” and he sighs. “Who, D.O.?” you asked him back. “D.O.?? You two are quite close,” Baekhyun pouts. “Oh well, we always talked and help each other when you’re not around. You’re are outside to manage bills and such, so lucky he’s here to keep me company when no customers around….”
“And you two that close until you agree to watch movies together????” Baekhyun suddenly raise up his voice. “Baekhyun, what’s wrong? Why??” You are starting to get upset. “You just known him for a month, and already agreed to watch movies?? That’s ridiculous.” Baekhyun answered you back. “What do you mean by ridiculous? Yes, we just met last month, but we see each other like, five, to six times a week.” You began to burn up as well. Baekhyun doesn’t want to lose either. “Cancel it.” he instructs you. “No.” you answered firmly. Baekhyun stared at you. “I said, cancel it.” You shake your head. “Y/N!! How dare you not listening to me!!” Baekhyun stands up. You are shocked, stoned by his sudden actions. “Why are you doing this?? Who are you to ask me around? Yes, you may be my manager in the café, the business partner in workplace, but who are you when it comes to watching movies with someone? Am I not allowed to go out with other man? You’re not my parents, not even my siblings…. And….” You teared up.
“And what??” Baekhyun stubbornly asks. “I don’t think…. you have, privilege…. exclusive thing…. to prevent me from going out with other guy.” You finally cry. You hastily change clothes and storm out of the café without saying goodbye to Baekhyun. He on the other hand, feels heavy in his heart too. “Why am I being like this since last few weeks ago? Why I suddenly don’t like seeing her going out with the new worker? What is happening to me? What should I do?” He muttered alone. He finishes his work and close the café.
“Hi Y/N! Have you waited long?” You saw Kyungsoo approaching you. “Hi, D.O.! Nope, I just arrived, too” you replied. “Nice! I have bought the tickets, let’s go inside,” said Kyungsoo. “Okay! Let’s buy two popcorns before we enter” you motioned your finger to the food counter. “Buy extra. Who knows, somebody might be hungry.” You laughed, agree with his statement. After buying some snacks, you two enter the cinema. The cinema is quite crowded with adults and teenagers since it’s weekend. Kyungsoo took a side row so that it’s easy to go out after the movie ended. The show is about to start, when….
“Oops, sorry, sorry, excuse me, sorry, excuse me…. Yeah, that’s my seat, sorry….” a familiar voice heard asking people to give way. You turn to the voice, and you can see Baekhyun is on his way to sit beside you. You and Kyungsoo are astonished to see his presence. “Umm Boss, I don’t think I need any guidance here….” Kyungsoo suddenly uttered. “Oh, come on! Don’t kill the fun! I come here to watch movies too,” Baekhyun answered. Your mouth opened, speechless seeing the real him sitting beside you. Baekhyun look at you, “What?” You didn’t answer him, instead, you roll your eyes then continue watching the movie.
It was in the middle of the movie when you feel someone’s head rests on your shoulder. You turn, and you see Baekhyun is sleeping. “Oh, great”, you roll your eyes, sighing. Kyungsoo could only chuckle and shake his head. Amazingly, Baekhyun slept until the end of the movie. You had to wake him up the moment you and Kyungsoo about to leave the cinema. “Ahhh…. I feel fresh after a good nap” Baekhyun said, leaving you and Kyungsoo speechless. “So, where are you going after this?” Baekhyun continues. “Home,” Kyungsoo answers, short. “Ahh, okay. Y/N will go home with me since we’re living nearby,” and Baekhyun suddenly holds your hand. “No! I can go home by myself,” you protest. “Nope, it’s final. You’re coming with me,” Baekhyun grabs your hand. “No! I want to go home with….”
“It’s okay Y/N, see you tomorrow,” Kyungsoo interrupts. He waves you goodbye, and quickly left. “Let’s go home,” Baekhyun smiles while holding your hand. You can only sigh and force yourself to follow him. While driving you home, you two keep silent. “Why are you coming?” You suddenly got curious. “Well…. I feel bored at home all the time too. I need something to release my stress too,” Baekhyun answered you, his eyes focusing on the road. You know it’s dangerous to fight while someone’s driving. You don’t want to get into car accident only because of the curiosity.
You remain silent until you reached home. “Thanks for the ride….”, You softly speak, before you come out from his car and enter the house. “Are you not happy I’m sending you home, and not go home with him instead?” Baekhyun suddenly ask. “Baekhyun, stop! I don’ want to fight, I’m tired,” you tearing up. “Why don’t you watch movies with the customers you talked to?” You continue. “Y/N! Why are you mad when I talk to them?? You seriously don’t deserve to get mad when I talk to them!!” Baekhyun boil up. “Don’t you dare raise your voice at me!! If I don’t deserve to get mad at you talking to the female customers only, then you shouldn’t be mad when I go out with D.O.!! You shouldn’t be forcing me go home with you too!!” you scream at him. “You know what, forget it. You win,” you storm out from his car, crying while entering house. Baekhyun closed his eyes. “What is wrong with me, really?”, and he drives home.
The next day, three of you are in the café, serving customers with orders. Surprisingly today, you notice that Baekhyun is less talking with female customers and focusing on taking their orders only. He converses more with male customers instead. You keep staring at his actions. “Who are you looking at?” Suddenly Kyungsoo appeared. “Oh! D.O.! My heart just dropped,” you startled. “Where? I don’t see your heart falling anywhere.” You laugh at his jokes. Baekhyun noticed you and Kyungsoo comfortably talking to each other, he indirectly orders you to do the dishes. You are flabbergasted upon the view at the sink with lots of unwashed mugs, glasses, plates and other utensils. Kyungsoo saw your reaction and head towards you to wash the dishes together. Baekhyun sighs for failing to separates you and Kyungsoo. “Y/N, stop with that dish. Come and help me at the back,” but you intend to finish what he ordered earlier. “Hold on, there’s still some….”
Baekhyun suddenly grabs your arm, trying to make you stay away from Kyungsoo. “Baekhyun, what are you doing? Stop!” You tried to escape Baekhyun from keep grabbing your arm while holding a mug. Unfortunately, he didn’t listen and yank your arm, making the mug slips from your hand and drop to the floor, startling the current customers there. Your hand cut from the mug slip as well. Baekhyun and Kyungsoo are both shocked. You cannot stand the humiliation and runs to the changing room. You cry so hard while nursing yourself. You feel painful at your hand, and even in your heart. You stayed there for a moment, calming yourself. After you calmed down, you left a note in the changing room before leaving the café through the café’s back door without them noticing.
In the meantime, Kyungsoo remains calm after all happened. He had predicted his manager’s actions and probably, feelings; since yesterday at the cinema. He continues sweeping the broken mugs, moping the floor and cleaning the remaining dishes. On the other hand, Baekhyun is still in confusion and disbelief. Kyungsoo pat Baekhyun’s back and give him a smile. Baekhyun is thankful for the comfort. Both of them resume their work, still unaware that you have gone home. However, an hour later, Baekhyun started to worry that you still not showing up. He goes to the changing room, and stunned when knowing that the room is empty. He looks around the room and found your note:
“I’m going home. It hurts so much….”
He tried calling you few times but failed. Baekhyun lets out a heavy sigh, worrying about you. He realised that he may have crossed the line. He brought the notes to the counter. He takes a seat, letting out a deep sigh. Luckily there is no new customer now since they had left earlier. Baekhyun shows the note to Kyungsoo. He lets out a sigh too. “What happen between you two? Why are you two fighting?” Baekhyun remains silent. Kyungsoo didn’t want this matter to be prolonged. “Is it because of me, you and Y/N fight??”
Baekhyun stares at Kyungsoo. “I don’t know what happened to me. I feel furious seeing her talking to you, sometimes joking with you. I even pissed off when I heard you took her to a movie date. That’s why, I came along last night”. Kyungsoo chuckles after hearing that. “Yeah, right. Just mock me. Y/N likes you, congrats,” Baekhyun snaps. “No, don’t worry. I was just in the phase of getting to know her, and seeing you two like this, I’ll just be your normal employees here. I don’t want to cause more trouble,” Kyungsoo answered. “Seeing you two like this? Wha…. what do you mean?” Baekhyun gets curious all of a sudden. “Since I started working here, I always catch Y/N looking at you when you’re around, have you notice that?” Baekhyun shakes his head.
“Well, of course you don’t, because you are busy talking to female customers. You don’t bother talking to male customers who willing to spend their money in this café, or families with their children who came here sometimes. You only focus yourself entertaining and flirting girls who came here. Y/N; I’m sure she’s jealous, but she can’t do anything but keep silent. At first, I thought you didn’t have feelings for her, so that’s why I ask her out, so she might be able to brush her one-sided-love feelings off. Well, seeing you at the cinema, and you even slept at her shoulder, plus…. Before the accident just now, you clearly preventing me from talking or working near her. It’s obvious to me that you are also jealous. You are easily irritated too. If I don’t tell you this, you’ll probably never know, but…. she actually cried silently last night while watching the movies. She uttered why did you do this when you don’t even like her. Well, she told me softly so that you will not awake,” Kyungsoo explained to Baekhyun.
Baekhyun feels stupefied after hearing all from him. Baekhyun screams. “What have I done?? What should I do now??” Kyungsoo simply turn off half of the lights. “Easy. Close early. I’m sure you can’t work at this state. You’re just emotionally disturbed. Go talk to her. Apologise. Explain yourself, express your real feelings. Go, before you both hurts yourselves more. That note? Simply means she’s hurt physically and emotionally from the cut on her hand, and her heart.” Baekhyun agrees, and close the café, then rush to your home.
Baekhyun rings your doorbell. You open the door and shocked to see the unexpected Baekhyun coming over to your house. “Please let me in….” Baekhyun pleads. You sigh and invite him to sit. You get to the kitchen to make him drinks, instead he grabs your arm softly and ask to remain seated. “I need to tell you something,” Baekhyun finally speaks while letting a deep sigh. “I know. Sorry for leaving the café suddenly, my hand throbs painfully, so I had to dropped by at the clinic to get some medicine. Luckily, they said the cut wasn’t too deep so they only gave me a pain killer. I’ll come tomorrow, unless you may have fire me earlier,” you answered. “No, not that thing. But…. Okay, I’m glad the wound was treated. And no, I won’t fire you. I don’t want to go through the whole process of hiring new employees and teach them from scratch,” he explained while caressing your wounded hand. “So? What do you want to tell me?” you raised an eyebrow.
“We were friends for ten years now, studied at the same university, and now we’re even work together at the same café”. You nod at his words. “I still remember when we’re started working at the café, like few weeks to few months, you keep saying that you don’t like seeing me constantly talking with female customers,” Baekhyun continues. “Oh, I’m sorry about that. I just meant that since you’re the manager, I thought at least you focus to other customers too, there are male customers too. If they see you like that I’m afraid they will feel you’re being bias or flirty or something” you tried explaining to him. “But now I know what are you really felt now, it’s wasn’t only that, right?” he asks, but you remain silent.
“After Kyungsoo came in, I saw you started to smile and shine again. My heart hurts all of a sudden. He even took you to watch movies together. I’ve tried telling you to not go with him but you refused, and it makes me irritate more. I came along to the cinema and purposely be close to you so that Kyungsoo aware of his boundaries. Again, seeing you both laughed together earlier today made me so angry.” You frown, confused. “Are you telling me you’re jealous now? What do you mean ‘so that Kyungsoo aware of his boundaries’? Like, we’re just…. friends, right…?”
Baekhyun sighs. “Y/N, at first, I can’t explain what I felt, what you also felt before. But after the incident this morning, I….” Baekhyun sighs again, eyes staring at the floor. “Yeah, I am jealous. My jealousy made you hurt…. I’m sorry Y/N, for not realising my feelings earlier. I’m sorry, for raising up my voice at you the other day. I’m sorry, for everything happened last few weeks….”, you see his tears coming down. “I forgive you, Baekhyun. Don’t cry.” You take a deep breath, and calmed him down. “I had discussed this matter with Kyungsoo and, I agree with what he said.” He looks at you. “Y/N, since we were working together, we have shared and learnt countless emotions everyday together. Even before, we have fought, cried and hugged each other”. You are surprised by his sudden confession.
“Is this what you felt all this time?” you interrupted him. “Yes, Y/N. Tell me, if this is love you also felt towards me.” You smile while nodding at him. Baekhyun started to smile as well; his courage to express himself increased. He holds your hands gently, pulling you closer, then hugging you. “Y/N, I… like you…. No, I love you…. Even after the sun goes down, or the moon goes down, this feeling; it will never change. I want to trust you, protect you and comfort you. I will be on your side and never leaves. I guess I have lost my mind now”, and you blushing upon hearing his confession. “Thank you for loving me and be there for me, Baekhyun.” He smiles, kissing your forehead passionately. “Y/N, I know this is crazy, but will you be my girlfriend?” he proposes you. “Yes! I will!” you smile brightly at him.
“Hm…. I guess Kyungsoo will be jealous of me, now that I have you not only as my business partner, but as my girlfriend too”. His words making you flush. “And you’ll have me as your wife in the near future too,” you added. He smiles while playfully doing nose rub with you. Your giggles and cheerful mood make him the happiest man now. “We’re eventually get there, my love.”
