a cafe in cotes, in the evening, when the wind gently wanders through the streets and the sinking sun turns the sky a brilliant blend of oranges and reds. vira’s beverage (which she had so been loking forward to) sits somewhat forgotten in front of her, heat being sapped by the minute in the cooling air.
steam curls and dissipates before her eyes.
“ circumstances being what they are, a familiar face is more than welcome. i have to ask -- do you perhaps remember anything from before your... abduction? anything clear? ”
cain -- a man of the idelva kingdom. commander to former commander, she knows he’s more than looks; you’d have to be, to land a place with their crew, but her intuition is only supported by that fact, not originated by it. so she skips the formalities and the politeness and jumps straight to her point --
“ the city is nice enough, but it is an undoubtedly hostile environment, I believe. no one with pure intentions would resort to dragging others to their creation by force. of course, it is pointless to live with a constant paranoia regarding our surroundings -- but I do not think this is in phantagrande.
rather, I do not think this is anywhere in the skies at all. so that is... disquieting, to say the least. ”
of course, while it is easy to allow it to sink into the background, deliberately directing her thoughts to the island fills her with a distinct discomfort. this same discomfort brings an abrupt halt to her sentence as she becomes aware of the unbroken musings she had just given voice to.
her fingers curl gingerly around the teacup and raise it to her lips once more; the silence is occupied by the clink of ceramic on ceramic and an exhale that speaks to a weight on her chest that she cannot stop thinking on.
“ i have gone on a bit -- my apologies.
well. our gilded cage aside, it is good to see you, cain. ”
