She had watched as the festival turned grim, re-awoken creatures much like the risen were everywhere, and everyone had seemed to encounter some tarnished image of their past… or themselves. Robin knew hers would come, there was too much corruption in her past and bloodline for it to be avoidable, but as of now, she helped others instead. She had been blessed to have enough magic to ward off these enemies, using magic aligned with both fire and electricity alike to smite enemies back to death, and help keep the city safe. As a shepherd of Ylisse, a mother of three, she had little inclination to do anything but ensure the safety of Spirale and all her citizens. Rest would come when this was all over.
She trekked through the city, aiding faces both familiar and new… but came across something worse than seeing her own visage all twisted and torn.
He was not alone, he looked on at opposing version of himself, marred and battered, and he appeared absolutely struck by fear in a way she had not seen. For all he had been witness to, all he had helped fight, all he had fought on his own, he had never looked as distressed as he was now.
Well, shit. She knew this was not so easily fixed by smiting down the doppelganger of her son, she could not be the one to do it. The best way to cleanse himself of this demon was for him to summon the will and power to fall this enemy.
But gods, why had they chosen to make him suffer?
Robin approached, cautious and slow, ever calculated, and backed up her son. Drawing her levin sword, she poised herself behind Morgan, but her blade peeking forth. She was ready to strike if necessary, but did not act upon her instinct to kill such a threat.
“Morgan, you’re okay! I’m here.” Voice calm, and firm, Robin smiled while issuing the doppelganger a challenging glare. “You can fight him, I will keep you safe… but these creatures are malicious, you cannot let him live.”
Morgan’s attention was snapped back into place for a brief moment at the sudden sound of his mother’s voice piercing the silence and calling out to him as he looked up at her, eyes widened but his demeanor and face looking rather struck with shock for a brief moment. Even now his mother’s words almost fell deaf onto him as he wanted to listen to her and her comforting tells of triumph but.. the specter before him kept on reminding him of another one of him that could exist in another timeline that could just do what he could.. but better.
He didn’t want to show weakness in front of his.. ‘mother’ however and want to remain strong as he always did, but the swarming thought and idea of just him being so replaceable filled his heart with a darkness he hadn’t felt in quite some time. This festering idea that if he would disappear, another Morgan could show up in his place.. take all the love and affection of a mother he never had and have it be properly placed.
Even now it was difficult to muster up the strength to strike back at his own copy, even as it shambled closer to him in rags. Sort of like a mirror of his own demons, he began to close his eyes and shake his head, attempting to force out any of those negative thoughts in his head and he found himself simply running forward towards the remnant before him, bringing his sword down at it which it promptly blocked against. At this point, Morgan began to swing wildly, doing everything he could to simply beat it back and away so that he may not have these thoughts anymore.
“ Back, BACK!! BACK AWAY AND DIE ALREADY!! DO NOT USE MY FACE--DO NOT USE WHO I AM--YOU ARE NOT ME, YOU WILL NEVER BE ME! “ It was.. uncharacteristic how wild he swung at the thing with how wide and how far they reached. He acted mostly on instinct, all while the shambling remains of whoever this figure was managed to block them easily with simple parries. There was an unusual strength behind the parries to which Morgan only began to tire himself out, wanting nothing more than to be done with this figure as his voice began to shake.
“ You’ll..!! You’ll not best me..! I’ve.. I’ve gone through so much.. too much.. to let myself..!! I-I can’t be weak now! I can’t--I can’t let anything surpass me now! I can’t lose now! I CAN’T LOSE NOW!! “
