you can just tell that gene luen yang understands batman more than most people who are actually writing batman-not that baixi is any less a batman than bruce wayne, of course, but he’s not the batman with the massive fanbase and history. like. the quote “feng rongpei, you might be stronger and faster than me. maybe even smarter in some ways. but i don’t give up. ever. and that’s why i’m the bat-man of china.” is just flat out better than and has more depth than anything tom king has ever written about batman, ever, in his entire career.
Silly headcanon that Duke Thomas and Wang Baixi are internet friends who bond over puzzle games and sci-fi movies and practice their Mandarian and English (respectively) together.
