According to Watson, this painting is based on one by Norman Rockwell. He doesn't specify which one, but it's pretty clearly "Saying Grace" (1951).

Watson created this as a portfolio piece at a time when there was talk of his doing art in the style of Rockwell for a JSA book set during their first year, to be written by Geoff Johns. That idea unfortunately never went anywhere.
