Here’s a rarity from the great jazz guitar virtuoso Pat Martino. He has dabbled in many styles, “Eastern”-influenced modal jazz, hard bop, and even avant garde. I love this song for all of its knotty turns of phrase in Martino’s soloing and for the Elvin Jones influenced drum work, tight and swinging but leaving lots of space for the soloist to take creative rhythmic risks.
