#baker woes

I’ve made the by now annual decision that for Christmas I am going to BAKE ALL THE THINGS, so I went through a small pile of cookbooks, made a list, crossed off half the list, asked everybody* what they liked the sound of, then shortlisted the results.

My “shortlist” is then divided into three; Christmas, New Year, Other.

Christmas:

Salt caramel brownies

Chocolate pinwheels (GDI I forgot to get the chocolate for these)

Zitron stars

Sugar cookie star tree

Chocolate dipped cigars

Vanilla cheesecake (commission for a friend)

New Year:

Whiskey & ginger shortbread (hmm, may do these instead of pinwheels)

Lemon tart

Millionaire’s shortbread

Grantham gingerbread

Other:

Brownie cheesecake

Glazed chocolate ginger hearts

Chocolate dipped orange shortbread

Lime sandwich cookies

....

I’m maybe going a liiiiiiittle bit overboard.

You never realise how much jiggling is involved in baking until you're doing it topless.

I love baking. It means doing things like shoving your hand into a mixing bowl filled with something that has the approximate consistency of cold, syrupy snot to try and crush out the lumps of brown sugar that the spoon missed.

Mind you, it was fun licking the resultant mess off of meself.

Christmas baking

This year, I decided I was just gonna make a couple small batches of sweet stuff, and not go mad with it like normal. Just sat and totted everything up, over the course of yesterday & today I’ve made:

- An 8-inch orange fruitcake (free from gross-tasting evil*)

- A tray of brownies (to be made into black forest trifle on christmas day)

- An 8-inch vanilla cheesecake (commission for a friend)

- A dozen & a half chocolate pinwheel shortbreads (FUCKING CHRIST I HATE THIS FUSSY RECIPE WHY DID I THINK IT’D BE ANY EASIER THIS TIME THAN ANY OTHER TIME)

- 81 vanilla bauble cookies, in 5 different sizes (still to be iced, that’s to be done tomorrow)

...

There’s three of us, I may yet again possibly just kinda maybe have made too much stuff. Crap. (*raisins)

Sometimes I really think it's only because I work during the day that keeps me from staging my own impromptu musical numbers in the bakery.

Today was a busy day in the bakery. Had to prep literally thousands of baked goods. Not saying I don't like the job, but damn they keep me busy.
