Namjoon is a very supportive customer.
He believes in a little something called brand loyalty.
There’s pride in being considered a regular, he enjoys baristas knowing his order, his name.
Knowing the staff member’s name, hopefully builds enough trust with them that they can relax their customer-service smile whenever Nmajoon comes in.
Sometimes even getting slivers of their day, their concerns, their victories.
Just leaving his mark around the places that left a mark in him.
You don’t need to do anything remarkable to make a connection with people.
And, hey, the special treatment isn’t so bad either.
Namjoon frequents the bakery a few blocks away from his work. Usually stopping by before his shift for a little sweet treat he’ll stash in his office until he needs a pick-me up. Or sometimes stopping by after his shift is done to bring something home after a long day.
Hell, sometimes he stops before and after!
Yoongi, the owner, really spoils him. Often giving him some freebies or a discount.
Not that it matters to Namjoon, Yoongi’s pastries, cookies and cakes are some of his favorites around Seoul.
And… The fact the sweet baker is so handsome definitely lures Namjoon to keep coming back.
Fall is right around the corner, the trees turning all shades of red, yellow, and burgundy. The colors frame the bakery beautifully.
The chilly air makes Namjoon rush inside. Besides, any day now, they’ll start selling their fall products, which he can’t wait for!
He has to show up everyday to see if they’re out yet… Obviously.
The scent of the palace already makes a smile grow on his face. A lot emptier than he is used to seeing the bakery, jazzy but tender piano solos play from the speakers while a few customers enjoy their drink, or snatch a bite of a muffin while reading a book.
Its a lot later than he is used to coming, he had to stay in a little later at work. Still, the counter looks abundant with a colorful variety of thick and soft cookies, flaky stuffed pastries, and tall, decadent cake slices.
“You’re in later than usual. I was wondering if you were gonna show up, or if you had gone into some sort of health kick.” Yoongi’s tone is friendly but teasing. Namjoon likes to think he allows himself to be playful with regulars like him.
Though it would be even more rewarding if there weren’t regulars like him.
His eyes scan Namjoon up and down as he walks in towards the register. “Pft! Never.” He chuckles, almost poetically feeling the way his overhang sits on the counter as he pulls out his wallet.
“Can I have two lemon and pistachio cookies, and a slice of the basque cheesecake?”
“Of course.” The baker can’t seem to hold his own smile. “You’re giving our summer items one last taste?”
“I was wondering when you guys were gonna start your fall line.” Conversation is easy, but Namjoon can never let himself be fully at ease in front of Yoongi.
The baker’s intense stare makes Namjoon feel so big.
It's kind of addictive.
“Oh? You’re excited to try them?” He smiles mischievous, as if knowing he is asking the most obvious question ever.
Still, Namjoon plays along. “Desperately.” He takes back his card and lets his hand sink under his belly to stuff his wallet into his front pocket.
Reaching behind him had become… Somewhat of an unnecessary struggle.
“Well… I wouldn’t offer this to anyone else.” Yoongi’s words make Namjoon stop in his tracks. “But I’m actually working on them right now.”
For the first time in all the years he’s chosen this establishment, Yoongi seems bashful as he continues. “Do you have time to wait until we’re closed?”
Namjoon’s brain goes blank. “I–I do.” He feels his own cheeks heating up.
“Then… Then you could act as my taste tester, hm?”
“Taste…tester?” Namjoon tilts his head, Yongi seems to have become more flustered at the idea of having to explain himself.
“Just… Just stay after closing. And you can try the fall items I’m working on.” His face is flushed pink, and it makes him look impossibly cuter.
Namjoon can barely hold his smile. “Deal.” With one final nod, he begins to walk back to his usual spot.
Far away from the restrictive booths, and onto a chair. One of the few without armrests. Namjon is willing to theorize that they keep them around for him. It might be egocentric to think of it, but also, he’s continuously the biggest person in the bakery every time he walks in.
Though, he tends to get things to-go when he comes in this late, to enjoy at home. But if Yoongi himself is offering a private taste testing, Namjoon is staying right where he is.
Knowing he will be tasting food later, he shouldn’t eat any of the things he bought…
But there's still 30 minutes until closing… And Namjoon was already hungry an hour before his shift ended…
What starts off as a bite from half of one of the cookies ends with both cookies and an entire tall slice of basque cheesecake. Only noticing how much he ate as the last spoonful of creamy cake slides past his lips.
This is why he needs the chair without armrests…
He doesn’t get a chance to hide the crime scene, because Haeun, one of the baristas, starts stacking chairs on top of the tables, while Eunwoo sweeps the floor.
And Yoongi is walking right towards him.
“Hope you still have some room?” He asks with a playful tone.
Namjoon would like the Earth to swallow him whole.
“Lead the way.” He can only offer a shy smile. Setting both hands on the table before hauling himself up. Embarrassedly he scans for the reactions of the rest of the staff, who luckily pay them no mind.
Of course they know Namjoon, but walking behind the counter with their boss has Namjoon burning at the cheeks.
It's bizarre, to see the bakeshop he is so familiar with form this new angle, and venturing towards the kitchen door.
Although nothing could have prepared Namjoon for the sight Yongi had prepared for him.
“Oh my God…” Namjoon whispers, mouth agape. The counter holds a display of fall items from all shapes and sizes. Some he recognizes from the bakery’s permanent fall selection, and some he doesn’t. “Am I in heaven?” He chuckles.
“I just wanted to spoil our most loyal customer.” Yoongi’s confidence seems to boost when surrounded by his beautiful creations. “Besides helping me out and maybe doing some free labor.” He jokes easily.
“Oh please, I would gladly eat free pastries and give my opinion for every one of your items, seasonal or not.” Namjoon finds himself walking towards the feast, a tall but small stool next to the counter that he lets his ass sink into.
“What should I start with?” He smiles at Yoongi, who got caught examining the stool’s capability to hold all of Namjoon’s mass.
“O-Oh! Well I’m sure you recognize some of these. But I adjusted the recipe a bit… Let's start with those.”
“I’m definitely the right person to do this, I pretty much remember the taste by heart.” Namjoon chuckles, belly pressing against the cold counter as he leans closer to pick up a slice of their staple pumpkin pie.
The thought of everything he ate before this pops into his mind, as his hands bring the slice towards his lips.
But that thought completely disappears once his mouth opens around the thick slice.
Yoongi doesn't answer, teeth nipping at the cuticle of his thumb and hyperfocused on Namjoon; a small frown crowning his brow.
Probably just worried about the adjustments of his recipes, but Namjoon still feels squirmish under his hardened stare.
Though the baker has nothing to worry about, since the new blend of spices makes the pie all the more rich and flavorful. He finds a moan making its way out of his mouth.
“Good?”
Namjoon stifles a laugh at the ridiculous question. “Not just good. This is amazing.” He mumbles with full cheeks. Barely waiting to swallow before he is taking another bite.
“D-don’t eat too much, you gotta try everything else.” Yoongi’s voice sounds tight. Probably from Namjoon’s obscene display of gluttony.
It feels criminal to leave unfinished, but he sets down the slice. “Right… What else?”
Yoongi reaches out for the cacophony of plates and brings a fat cinnamon roll towards Namjoon’s chest. His eagerness makes his face burn, the baker doesn’t take a step back as Namjoon grabs the cinnamon roll and takes a big bite.
His entire expression perks up, tasting the fluffy but sugary frosting, and completely slumps and relaxes when the warmth of the cinnamon reaches his tongue.
Words die in his throat, busy on the pillowy thick dough. So he can only nod in approval, slow and lazy.
Once again, all of Nmajoon’s previous dishes make themselves known to him.
“I’m guessing this recipe also improved?” Yoongi’s voice and smile hold a teasing demeanour to them. Namjoon takes his time to swallow this time before answering.
“I don’t think there’s anything you could bake that I wouldn't like.” His voice sounds thick with frosting and cinnamon butter.
“I’m getting a very biased review.” The baker chuckles, crossing his arms but staying inside Namjoon’s personal bubble. His presence overwhelming.
“That’s what you get for asking someone who likes food a little too much.” Namjoon smiles back.
“Fair. But the customer who likes food too much is the one that spends the most money.” It feels like his voice lowers, and Namjoon feels completely exposed.
He does spend an embarrassing amount of money here.
And he looks like it.
Even though Yoongi is so much smaller than him, and in so many ways, yet he still towers over Namjoon with his presence. Making him feel a little cramped into his stool.
“Is that all I am? Just a way to make more money?” He asks, jokingly outraged.
Yoongi doesn’t dignify that question with a response. Instead shoving a macadamia cookie towards Namjonon’s lips.
“Just try it.” His voice comes out hushed, embarrassed by his own bold action.
But if the hoarse sound of Yoongi’s voice wasn’t enough, the way his torso brushes Namjoon’s side from where he is sat is more than enough to make him drop his jaw at the cookie pushing his lips open.
And as he chews, his taste buds explode with buttery, nutty cookie dough. He doesn’t make an effort to take the cookie out from Yoongi’s hand. Instead, his hands settle on top of his belly.
Everything he had eaten before really makes itself known, not only can Namjoon feel it inside. But the shelf of his belly protrudes with the familiar sensation of a bloat.
He opens his eyes and catches the bakery’s eyes following Namjoon’s hands closely. They’re so close, he can see the way Yoongi’s cheeks brun pink after being caught staring.
“G-good?” He asks to fill in the silence.
A smile spreads his cheeks, his dimples show. “Could use some filling, or macadamia chunks in.”
Yoongi nods absent mindedly. “Now you got critical, huh?" A smile teases at his lips.
“If you wanna shut me up, you know how.” Namjoon says, in a sudden moment of bravery.
Luckily, Yoongi seems to be feeling brave too. Shoving the caramelized apple pastry into Namjoon’s lips a little bit more forcefully than that first cookie.
He welcomes it, though. Jaw relaxed and ready. Yong’s face is impossibly closer, their eyes lock. And maybe it's that which gives Namjoon the courage to moan while his lips are still stretched around the pastry.
Or maybe it's the delicious flavor.
Either way, it's worth it to get the closest view of the baker’s face get impossibly redder.
“Please swallow before you give any tips this time.” Yoongi teases, though his voice is still breathy and hoarse.
The hand that isn’t holding the pastry up to Namjoon’s lips falls against his bloat, brushes against the customer’s own hand rubbing at his distended stomach.
Ironically, he can’t help but chuckle at Yoongi’s comment before he gets a chance to swallow.
“Don’t get bossy, I’m doing you a favor.”
“Are you?” Yongi smile, becoming more confident the further they push the limit. “I’m just giving you free food.”
“Food I was already paying for…” Namjoon smiles.
“Well I wanted to get your attention, and I did.” Even if his tone remains teasing, it loses its bite with the blush that warmed the baker’s face.
Namjoon is taken aback, letting only his heavy breathing fill the quiet room.
Everything he’s eaten till now yelling at Namjoon for his attention. He is so stuffed.
“My attention?”
Yoongi seems to shrink into himself.
“You can just take the rest home…” He avoids answering, the same way he avoids Namjoon’s eyes.
“Why would I do that?” A smile rounds his cheeks. “I wanna give you my opinion.”
Yoongi perks up, a shy smile on his face. “You’re full though.”
“Let me show you how to make room then.” Boldly, he takes Yoongi’s hand that's resting on the crest of his belly, and begins to guide in the soothing motions of a rub.
