Title: Bakery Training Technician / Cake Decorator (Bilingual Spanish)

Locations: Dallas, TX

Requirements:

5 years retail baking experience

3 years cake decorating experience including design, customized cake design, and mass production

Minimum 1.5 years In-Store Bakery cake decorating experience

High School diploma or equivalent required

Excellent verbal communication skills

Travel 75%

Key Accountabilities:

Train Walmart Bakery Associates on Bakery protocol in stores with specific emphasis on cake decoration.

Build relationships with Walmart associates including Walmart Store Bakery Managers and Operation leads.

Provide new store opening support.

Communicate any policy changes to store associates.

Provide weekly reports to manager outlining results of store visits, action steps and issues addressed.

Coordinate training efforts while minimizing travel costs.

Participate in regional/national Tech Task Force training updates

Assist Walmart home office staff as needed on demand basis for ‘special projects’

the bakery

Sometimes I miss working at the bagel bakery, seeing my regulars and chatting with people. My favorites?

A married couple, both in their sixties or so.

Contrast.

She was about 5’, short curled gray hair, the sweetest eyes, carefully dressed in floral or faded shirts and those denim elastic waist pants that it seems most grandmas wear.

She would always get a turkey sandwich on an onion bagel, and she’d talk with her head down, so her husband would remind her to “talk to the lady and not the case”, and she’d go “oh!” and look up at me and smile and repeat everything.

She was soft spoken, gentle, a little absent minded and forgetful, but her presence was warm and peaceful.

Her husband was taller, a little taller than I am, so about 5’11” or so. Longer gray hair, not enough for a bun or anything though. Sweet and intense blue eyes. He walked with a limp in cowboy boots, always wore a black leather jacket with “Bikers for Christ” on the back, a John 3:16 patch on the sleeve, and many other words on it. He’d always get a sweet bagel, like orange-cranberry or blueberry, with tuna salad on it.

He was more blunt, had RBF until he started talking, and then he was really sweet. He adored his little forgetful wife, very protective of her. When I brought their orders out he’d always wink at me in a non-creepy friendly way, and they’d sit at the second table from the door and eat their food. Sometimes they’d talk a lot, other times they’d be pretty quiet.

They were one of the cutest old couples I’d ever seen, I still think about them whenever I’m in the area.
