I started baking sourdough bread because I was sick of having to buy a plastic bag with every loaf. And also because I wanted better bread. But mostly because I wanted to experience the pleasure of this very fundamental human activity. I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did. But my husband and I can only eat so much bread, and I wanted to bake more, learn faster. Yesterday I completed my third once-weekly bake for neighborhood subscribers (four sourdough breads plus pizza dough, about 30 items total, plus an experiment or two to expand my repertoire, all from a single electric home oven.) My feet were sore. My back is still sore. There are more dishes to wash. I barely left the house for two days.
