The House of Laurent Giubega in the Citadel of Calvi: Napoléon’s Godfather and the Bonapartes’ place of Refuge
In may-June 1793, Napoléon Bonaparte and his family were forced to flee Ajaccio. The Bonapartes took refuge in Calvi with Napoleon's godfather, Laurent Giubega who owned a house in the citadel of Calvi. Napoléon joined them on June 3. His time in calvi was very brief, as his family’s property in Ajaccio had been plundered by supporters of Pascal Paoli, leaving them with no choice but to take refuge with Giubega. Earlier, in 1789.
