So I just bought and was able to read volume 32 in full and I’ve got to disagree with people who say that Bard’s backstory was problematic. For some reason I think people believed that it was justifying the slaughter of native people but it literally says the opposite. There’s a line from Bard that says “Our ancestors dreams were their nightmares, our expansion their invasion, our coexistence their exploitation”, and Bard calls the native people fighting back “their justice”. I don’t think someone trying to justify the Indian wars would describe it this way. I don’t think Bard’s backstory is problematic because these things actually happened in real life. Bard calls himself totally insane for being unable to forgive and choosing to continue the cycle of violence and live for revenge.
