How we got to design a logo for a well-known DJ duo

On a day just like today, I had some free time on my hands. I felt like designing a logo for someone that really needed it. I listened to a fair bit of EDM music at that point in time and felt like contributing to the community. The DJ duo that I chose to contribute to was called Bali Bandits, because I really liked their music, and they really needed a redesign.

Just like that, the adventure started.

I started making something that fitted their profile. I made sure every detail was on point and even created alternatives. The process was so quick; it didn’t take longer than a day to complete.

And then, the next step, the big one; mailing the result. At this point I was kind of afraid to send the logo design to them, I didn’t know them, never spoke to them and probably never would. And what if they didn’t like it? Nevertheless, I decided to send it.

And boy, am I happy that I decided to just do it.

After a few days of waiting and thinking about the whole situation I got a reply. They really liked it, they told me they were going to give it some thought.

After they gave it some thought, they came to the conclusion that the logo didn’t represent them well enough. Because they tried to be different than all the other DJ’s out there, and this logo would’ve made them just like all the other DJ’s in every way. So I decided to make something completely different. Something funky and maybe even too daring.

I started sketching different fonts and calligraphy. After a day or two I was finally satisfied with the result. And decided to send them the new logo at the moment I was finished.

And you know what, they absolutely loved it. As of now, it’s their logo. At that point I couldn’t be more proud of myself. I did something out of the blue, and it turned out perfectly.

So I guess this will be my advice to all designers out there. Just do it. When you come up with an idea, just do it. Screw all the people that say that it’s never going to happen, because you can make it happen.

For the ones interested, this was the final logo:
