Reflection about the story “Turban Legend” by Zamora Linmark. Blog no.9
It was to address and educate each story was made. That's why I was impressed by Zamora Linmark in this "turban legend" story, this does not just a lecture , it demonstrates what makes Filipino people different from others and how Filipino offer certain stuff importance.
My father was also a OFW, since I was a kid I grow up with a lack of comfort of a father I never experienced Christmas celebration with a him, sometimes I got jealous of some family out there celebrating Christmas with their whole family and At the point when I read the story, I can say it is where Filipino can truly relate to, I am one have felt that genuine sentiment of sorrow and panicked sort feeling.
Many Filipinos work for money abroad, and any time anyone has to be separated from their families, it hurts me. We all know that no one wants to separate themselves from their families, but we need to live in order. But it made me realize that value and appreciation are significant. The anecdote involves the struggles an overseas Filipino worker is facing, and how they respect their family and show their love by giving them gifts filled with all kinds of items in the form of big carton boxes. One of the Filipino's features is that we are patient, solid and very brave, and that's why I was so proud to be Filipino.
The word home, home isn't where your house is but it is where your heart feels comfortable, now in this story the story of the engineer who died because of inserting his self in the balikbayan box for wanting to get back to his home, because home is where we are used, I mean I think why the engineer here put his self in the box not only because he wants to be with his family but he wants to be comfortable again like what he used to.
We always take extreme pleasures and convenience from their “Balikbayan boxes”. But these boxes hold a deeper meaning into it. The love that Overseas Filipino Workers seals into it, profound as the deep seas, and I think that’s the most beautiful way to show their affection and we need to appreciate them more and be always thankful to them, because just like in the story, Turban Legend, They would do anything for us, anything just to come home even if it means giving their lives up.
The story made me realize things I should have known sooner, a lesson that we all should keep. The only way to pay them back is through gratitude and increased appreciation. Give value to the things they’ve sent. Value the person that took the extreme to give you love and a comfortable life. This story made me idolize OFW's doings as well as what my father did and this story is an eye opener .And made us realize how hard being OFW'
