American Day 58 - Day 4 of “365 days off” - work, work, work, or lack thereof
It’s been four days since I officially left New York but it still hasn’t really set in, I think about what I’m doing next weekend as though it will take place in NYC. What has set in is my complete lack of income! Florida is like: wake up, walk the dog, walk the beach, argue with mom about some benign computer problem (why won’t the scanner scan? because you didn’t push the scan button!! - insert Amy Schumer sketch here). I’ve spent a lot of time contemplating my choices over the last four days. Overall I still feel pretty good about walking away from a job, apartment and friends in a city I love. When I think about the alternative, doing the same thing over again for another year, I feel my blood pressure rising. I know taking the year to figure my shit out was the right thing to do.
I have also spent a lot of time trying to figure out how I’m going to earn money over the next year. After hours of internet searching, here’s what I’ve come up with that doesn’t involve me selling blood, eggs or any other random part of my body (do they take dyed hair? I can’t remember): 1. Scuba diving instructor. This one will cost a lot but could be the best and most rewarding!
2. ESL tutor - I applied for this by sending in a video interview earlier this week.
3. Online instructional coaching - this one should start in September hopefully.
4. I might start writing lists for $100 a pop if they get published (hey! I’m practicing right now) 5. I signed up for something where I can watch websites for gift cards too but am not really sure how it works... I may have just accidentally sold my information to google.
So far NONE of these plans have paid off but I’m hopeful!
I've made the conscious decision that I am definitely going to Bali next year and I already have half of the money saved up for it. Whether I go alone or with other people will make no difference because I am going either way. I have something else to look forward to now
