BirthdayGate
Because we SHOULD be talking about it.
It is close to impossible for BirthdayGate to be unintentional.
First of all Will is one of the only characters in the series to have a confirmed birthday. It's also the only one (as far as l'm aware) to be verbally confirmed/ spoken about IN the show. (I know El's is in a missing poster but that was a small detail rather than one that was brought attention too, I don't think it was shown til later either).
How would it happen that out of all 365 days of the year, the day they pick for the video tape at Rink-O-Mania is the birthday of the character that was feeling left out the entire day??? Especially since it's a big show, so surely the people HIRED to look at continuity would pick up on this small detail. Especially since it's as simple to find as looking at the Character Wiki or even better watching your own show.
This means that all of the characters are forgetting detail about him, forgetting him.
Well ok then. Say for a second we pretend it was a coincidence and by some miracle they picked that date. The Duffer Brothers do say in an interview it was an "accident" after all.
So how did they propose fixing it? They talked about did an interview and said they would go back and "Change his birthday" likely to May 22nd instead. If you go back and watch S2 Ep8 "The Mind Flayer" you can see his birthday remains unchanged.
So why not change it?? We know they have the ability to go back and retroactively edit scenes. They did it with Holly's under armour as recently as this season.
Why bring attention to it, tell us they're going to change it and then not???
(Don't even get me started on the dial colour change)
But that's not all…
In Season 2 there is a poster on Wills wall bringing attention to forgetting birthdays. This could be a coincidence but then in Season 4 when they have Suzie say to Dustin she remembers his birthday down to the hour. They then have Murray say when referencing the money drop for Hopper “there are certain things in life you can be late for, such as a 1 year olds birthday party”. So much emphasis on birthday in Season 4 when birthdaygate occurs cannot be a coincidence
They then decided to create FURTHER emphasis on the birthday when they created "The First Shadow" Play, and gave Henry Creel the SAME BIRTHDAY as Will???? So it's obviously very intentional as why else would you put SO much attention on something you claim to be a "mistake" despite having not changed it yet.
Also it further shows the parallels between Will Henry but that's a whole different can of worms’
Henry got rid of his family (shown in newspapers) just before his birthday as well (according to the show I’ve not watched the play). This shows a further link between March/Henry/Will.
And theres still somehow more?
This was pointed out to me by someone! But Season 3 Episode 6 was originally called “The Birthday” before being changed to “E Pluribus Unum”. This could be due to the Birth of America as it is July 4th but it’s still interesting this episode name was “forgotten”. The only other episode name that changed was Episode 5 - which changed from “The Source” to “The Flayed”.
And they just keep being up his birthday. Every year on his birthday they put even more emphasis on forgetting it by bringing out some sort of video/ image. Why would they bring so much attention to a “mistake”, especially one they haven’t changed.
I’m on mobile so have a ten media attachments limit . This is Part 1 of 2.
Part 2 will be in the reblogs/my page
