November 16 - Day 93

This morning we watched the sunrise atop of Maha Gudi Pagoda and the view was absolutely breathtaking. The stairway through was cramped and small (Mike barely fit!) and dark, which made things even a bit more eerily beautiful! We situated ourselves around 6 am, but there were quite a handful of people already present! Finally at 6:22 am, we saw the balloons and sun rise over Bagan. We stayed until about 7 am. On our way down is when we saw the HUGE bees nest that we could have easily bumped down with our head (thank god we or anyone else didn’t!).

I still wasn’t feeling well so I had another day in bed (fingers seriously crossed so hard that whatever the f is in my stomach leaves!!)

As the Captain blasted the fire above our heads, I could feel the heat wash over me. And when we rose up and up into the sky, hundreds upon hundreds of Bagan’s majestic ancient temples slowly came into view. What was supposed to be a short 1 hour balloon ride turned into an eternity as I gazed upon the most incredible sight I’d ever seen.
