S3 E2 Changing Times (spoilers) (or E3, depends whether your set counts the xmas special as separate or the start to S3)
Before we get this scene Assumpta tells Niamh that she has decided to leave Ballykay for a little while. However it all depends on whether she can look after the pub in her absence (really, is that all it depends on?).
After Peter breaks his news Assumpta replies “At least I know I made the right decision.” She’d decided this before knowing what Peter would say or do. Was the incident in the car enough to make her runaway out of fear?
Maybe she was already planning to visit Leo but Peter’s decision drove her to marrying him? Or had she already made up her mind because she knew exactly what Peter would do but some part of her was secretly hoping that he would surprise her?
I know many people find her abrupt wedding a bit absurd but I like to think it’s just so telling as to the impact Peter has on her. He broke her heart in that kitchen and she left needing desperately to erase him. She was reckless. When she returns you just know that she knows she f’d up. They both know they’ve messed up! This is also the start of Dervla serving some award worthy expressions!
