merry christmas, hope y’all like more dragon quest monster art. 

This guy actually has a lot more plot relevance than the previous monsters I drew. Part of dragon quest 4′s storyline involves a pair of sisters trying to avenge the murder of their father, and that murder happens to have been carried out by a braggy dude named Balzack who killed him to obtain the Secret of Evolution he had discovered. Once you track him down he boasts about how he’ll show you EVOLUTION WITHOUT LIMITATION, only to then turn into some sort of shitty little pig-ape who gets his ass kicked and has to be bailed out by a giant eight-legged lion. Later on he does manage to evolve himself a more formidable demon body, but I kind of like his shitty little pig-ape form.

There are honestly only three rules for writing Balzack/Baalzack.

1) Balzack is the human form and the first transformation form. The second transformation who looks like a blue Pruslas is Baalzack. (Note: Baalzack says that the monsters actually took to calling him Baalzack so he did not come up with the name himself. So she isn't quite Asgore.)

2) Balzack murdered Mahabala for the Secret of Evolution. (Note: If Maya and Meena ever have any interaction with Balzack after this happens... well revenge is the only reason Maya and Meena are travelling across the world in the first place.)

3) At least in the localizations, Balzack is French.

And yet somehow Dragon Quest Heroes 2 missed literally all of these. They still call him Balzack after transformation, Maya and Meena treat him like some random encounter, and he isn't even French! 

Shameful, honestly.

i already have a new one in mind. i just can’t bring myself to part with balzack cause i’ve had it for over 3 years
