Finding quality bamboos

Took a flight to Miyazaki to acquire bamboos.

Power fiber, lignin and silica are important factors to produce bamboo rods. Silica is contained about 5% on the outer side called epidermis, compared to 0.1% on the inner side of bamboo.

The environmental conditions to cultivate good bamboo is quite limited;

sunlight hours, geography, terrain direction, and nature of the soil are very important.

Was able to purchase premium bamboos from the same mountain as last year.

We believe these bamboos would change the golden standard, "bamboo rods should be made of Tonkin cane”

宮崎へ、竹の買付に行ってきました。

バンブーロッドに適した竹の組織で重要とされるのが、パワーファイバーと言われる維管束とリグニンを多く含む軟組織、それに加えて珪酸成分。この珪酸は竹の内側には0.1％程度ですが、外側の表皮部分には非常に多く、葉緑素を含む表皮には5％ととても密度が高く、竹がねばり強く育つ条件としてとても大切です。

この好条件を満たす竹の生育環境は限られ、日射時間、地形と方角、土質で同じ種の竹でもその素材の粘り強さは大きく異なります。

近年はこの条件の揃った山から切り出した竹のみを使わせていただいています。

今年も同じ山から切り出した竹の中から更に厳選したものを買い付ける事が出来ました。

この竹は長い歴史の中で ”バンブーロッドはトンキンケーン” とされてきたゴールデンスタンダードを変えると僕は信じています。

How to make their dreams come true.

Invited to the primary  school as a guest lecturer. It was published in the newspaper.

I told the children how to make their dreams come true.　The most important thing I want to tell everyone is "To love"

I'm flyfisherman. That I'm the first user of my rod. There are people who sympathize with that. So, I can live as a bamboo rod builder. And for that I will spare no effort.

I think it's important to say, "How much do you love it?" I Share That Love.

I want you to find "love" and make your dreams come true. We create a future and values that enable children to make their dreams come true.

地域の小学校でキャリア教育の授業の特別講師として、僕の仕事についてお話をさせていただきました。

一番、伝えたい事は　”愛するという事”　でした。

僕が僕自身の竿の一番目のユーザーである事と、フライフィッシャーとして自分が愛せる道具を作る。それに共感してくれる人達がいて、はじめてバンブーロッドビルダーとして生きていける。好きな世界で生きて行くためには夢を描き続け、創造して行く事が大切です。

独りよがりではなく、「それをどれだけ愛しているのか？」が大切だと思います。

子どもたちにも、自分なりの”愛するという事”　を見つけ、夢を叶えてもらいたい。

子どもたちが夢を見れる社会と価値観を残して行く事が僕たち大人の責任なのだと思います。

工房をお借りしてもらったトンキンケーンを割って裂いて。最後は曲がりの治し方を教わりバンブーロッドビルディング１日目終了。想像の三倍くらい大変だなこれは。

The Rise game lasted 4 hours

Finished wrapping the guides.Then I headed to the river.

I sat on the usual fallen tree and waited for Rise for a while. At 10:30am, A big IWANA rise!

"Whoa!" I tied Royal Coachman #12 to the end of the 4x tippet. I put it on the flow about twice.　But no reaction of the fish.

No noticeable hatches are seen. Beetle、ant...I tried out the possible terrestrial patterns. But no reaction of the fish.

I sat on the fallen tree again and waited for the next timing.

Rise again！

The wind blows from time to time, and a large caddis falls to the surface of the water.

I changed it to CDC Caddis. There was no hesitation.

But no reaction of the fish... I've tried changing the colors and sizes.

Humpy、Fourmi Brun、Adams...I Changed tippet size to 5x. I tried any possible patterns and sizes. And I was able to find the timing and rest the point.

I sitting on a fallen tree and waiting for the next timing, a large brown bear appeared from the bushes on the other side of the river. The brown bear that noticed me and I stiffened for a while. He turned slowly, as if mocking me, and went back to the woods.

I was terrified, and I looked at the next timing again. Suddenly, I looked away from the bushes and saw a Daddy long legs.

I muttered, "This is it…"

ガイドのラッピングを済ませて、少し遅めに川へ向かった。

いつもの倒木に腰かけて暫くライズを待っていた。10:30am、目当ての大岩魚がゴボッと頭を出した！

「Whoa！」　

4xのティペットの先に結んだ Royal Coachman＃12 を2回程流すが出ない。

目立ったハッチは見受けられない。Beetle、ant... と考えられるテレストリアルパターンを流すが出ない。

僕は再び倒木に腰かけ次のタイミングを待つ。

再び、ゴボッと頭を出した。

時より吹く風でフキの葉の裏で休んでいた大型のカディスが水面に落ちている。　僕は迷わずCDC Caddis #10に結び変えた。

しかし、出ない...サイズや色を変えて流すが出ない。

続いてHumpy、Fourmi Brun、Adams...ティペットサイズを5xまで落とし、ありとあらゆるパターンとサイズを試してはタイミングを見計らいポイントを休める事を繰り返した。

倒木に腰かけ次のタイミングを待っていると、対岸の藪から「ガサガサ」っと大きなヒグマが姿を現した。僕に気がついたヒグマと僕はしばらく目を合わせていた。ライズの答えが分からずに頭を抱える僕を嘲笑うかのようにゆっくり振り向いて、再び深い森へと消えて行った。

僕は恐怖に脅えながら、再び次のタイミングを待った。　ふと、フキの藪に目線をそらすと一匹のガガンボが目に入った。

僕は「これだな...」と呟いた。
