40.
40. How did you come to supporting your club?
I apologize in advance because this is long and boring, and not all that interesting. (Also, I’m assuming this is in regards to Liverpool)
Well. I didn’t grow up around soccer, nor did I play it. American football and baseball was all I knew. Then I started to really follow soccer during Euro 2008. In short, I fell in love with Fernando Torres - who at the time was still with Liverpool. I chose to follow Liverpool at that time because of Torres, he was all I knew, so in turn, Liverpool was all I knew. When he left, I still didn't know much about the club or its history, so I had a decision to make. Follow Torres to Chelsea and support them, or continue to support Liverpool, a club I knew next to nothing about.
I’m not going to lie, I tried to support Chelsea for awhile (at most one month), because, again, Torres was all I knew. But after awhile, I just knew that Chelsea wasn't the club for me, Torres or not. I couldn't really get an understanding of the fans and really detested the majority of the players.
So, Liverpool. There was something about Liverpool that felt right, you know what I mean? I have no family ties to the club and I haven’t been supporting Liverpool all of my life, but it’s my club. My reasoning behind supporting the Reds may seem suspect, and it is considering, but it’s the truth. I don’t regret how I came to support LFC because I had to find my own way and I know I chose the right club. It’s difficult being an American supporting an English club without any legitimate claims to said club because in the eyes of most, you’re a fraud. But, yeah.
Liverpool and my heart go hand-in-hand.
