Brent University.
These will be the memories you carry with you always, these will be the friends you never not miss. This will be the ultimate time of your life.
It wasn't my first though when all of this happened, but after some thought, I will be closing Brent. Not because it can't hold it's own any more, or because it's the only thing i can do, but because I don't have a passion for Brent anymore, and because this is best for me.Â
This decision feels right, and I feel really good about it. I've spoken to most of the remaining members and we all feel like we want to move on from Brent together, and we don't really want a constant competition between us and the other roleplay. I mean, how many oc college rps does tumblr really need right? We are all really happy with this choice, and have decided to let go of any ill will, because in the end that will only make us feel crappy.Â
Thank you for the time you have dedicated to Brent, and for the memories.Â
Some of you are probably aware of what's going on, and that things are really messy right now. I write this message not as an admin, but as a person. I'm devastated with all of this. I cannot stop anyone from making another roleplay, and nor should I. I cannot stop anyone from playing their oc anywhere else, and nor should I.. but to find out one of Brent's members has made another university roleplay, and about half of Brent's face claims are reserved, especially those of two members who have left messages in the main saying they are leaving Brent... It makes me feel like a shot in the heart.Â
I know Brent has been having issues lately, and Jesse and I have been discussing them, and planning some things to try and implement which might help, which we planned on setting up this coming week when I wasn't so stressed out at work. What hurts most of all of this, was no one came to me or Jesse with issues. No one gave us a chance to try and fix anything. This was all done behind our backs, and by people I trusted.Â
I've been battling lately, with rising anxiety, and a particularly bad period of a manic low, and I know I haven't been level headed at times, and I apologize from the bottom of my heart for those times. We were trying to work on that though. I was coming up with strategies. And I feel like instead of anyone telling me how they felt and giving me a chance to make amends, they've just written me off, and written Brent off.Â
I'm not going to look at the other rp. Not going to ask who's there or who isn't. My close friends know how I feel, and ultimately it's up to anyone what they want to do. I just know that I'm not ready to let go of Brent yet. I am committed to fixing things. Once the dust settles a bit, I'll start to clean the main up, and make some changes. But please, I want your feedback. I want to make this place happy for everyone.Â
Letting everyone know that accepting new characters has been put on hold for the minute, because there is some stuff that has to be sorted out. There is some things going on right now that is just not okay, and we need to fix the problem before it becomes a huge issue. Which is hard for Jesse and I to do this week, since I'm working double my normal shifts. However, until we can figure out some new rules and regulations to help fix this issue, here are some things you all need to remember.Â
Ignoring characters, or someone in the ooc is not okay.Â
Only plotting with your friends is not okay
Cutting people out of plots without talking to them is not okay
Ignoring someone's attempt to plot with you is not okay
Creating multiple then only having them talk to the same group of people is not okay.Â
This is the sort of stuff that will bring a roleplay down faster than anything, and that's the last thing anyone on Brent wants. If you feel like you might be guilty of anything listed up there, maybe re-think the way you interact on Brent, and work on being more inclusive. But be aware that come Friday, when Jesse and I actually have a chance to talk for more than twenty minutes, we will be nipping all of this in the butt before it grows into a huge issue, so you will either need to be on board with that, or find a new game.Â
edit from jesse: We are in no way discouraging you from being part of BU. Rather, we're encouraging this group to become one large group of friends. And that has to start with our characters and interacting with as many people as we can. We, as admin, are included in this as well. We don't want to be divided, we want to be united.Â
We previously had a Jack Harries, so we do accept them. Just make sure that the youtuber has never spoken out against their face being used in things like roleplays.Â
I've loved my holiday a lot, but sadly I must go back. Normally I only work thurs/fri but this week I've taken on extra shifts because I'm not studying right now. I'll be working for the next four days, and will only be on before and after work. I will try to stay up to date with things, but please forgive any delays.Â
so, i'm going to italy on a study abroad thing, and it may take a bit of time for me to get reliable wifi, so expect spotty activity from me for around a week
Italy though! That's amazing! Have a blast, and don't stress about internet. We will be here when you're all settled <3
There will be no real chatzy or anything official for this event today, but feel free to roleplay it as you see fit. You are also free to merely head canon how the funeral was for your character.Â
So, a small question: On your "ways to interact" page, you note that players shouldn't use gifs for the sake of gifs during dashboard chats. I'm planning on applying with a fc who has no gifs whatsoever -- do these chats have to include gifs at all? (I'm not a big gif chat person in the first place -- just wondering if I'd be able to interact normally.)
You absolutely do not need to use gifs. It's all a personal preference. We'd even allow you to use animated or animal gifs (as long as you don't abuse that) from time to time if you wished.Â
I feel a bit stupid asking, but how much would Brent University cost per year? Do they offer scholarships?
While I can't put a sticker price on tuition for BU without doing some more research and chatting with the other admin I will just go ahead and say - college is expensive. That's what financial aid is for. And generally, in-state students tend to get in a little cheaper. However - BU does have scholarships, as any other college would.
Maggie Abraham grew up in a small town not too far away from Brent, Iowa. Her father ran a prosperous car dealership in town, and her mother never worked a day in her life. With two older athletic brothers, football was always talked about in the Abraham household. In fact, there wasnât much else discussed at home. Football was the most important thing. Football and God. Maggie loved it. Ever since she was a little girl she would adore going to her brothersâ games, cheering them on from the stands. Whenever one of the Abraham boys was dating a cheerleader, they would invite her down and teach her their routines. She fell in love with it, and knew as soon as she was in high school, she would join the squad.
High School was a dream for the girl. Her brothersâ popularity before her made her name known and idolized. Everyone wanted to get close to the family that bred football legends. Both Peter and John went on to play college ball; Peter at Notre Dame, John at Ole Miss. Maggie missed them, but knew that it was her turn to take the school by storm. Of course she made the cheerleading squad, and to her fatherâs delight, started dating the starting QB. Maggieâs life was perfect, just as she planned, until her boyfriend pressured her into sex.
All her life Maggie was raised to wait for marriage, but her boyfriend convinced her to consent. He told her he would break up with her or get it somewhere else. Not wanting to lose him, she gave in. She regrets what she did, and went to confession shorty after. Knowing she would always be forgiven, Maggie kept sleeping with him, slowly throwing her morals away. When he broke up with her at the end of their senior year, Maggie was crushed and desperately wanted to get away. It led her to Brent University, where she started to grow into herself and regain the confidence she once had.Â
ROLE PLAY SAMPLE:Â
Beep. Beep. Beep.
The alarm sounded, loud and unforgiving, ruining Mackenzie Caldwellâs deep sleep. Of course, she set the alarm herself, and knew her slumber was bound to come to a swift end before she closed her eyes the night before, but there was still a sense of dread about the upcoming day. Still, 5:30am, bright and early, she got out of her warm, soothing sheets.
The hardwood floors felt unfamiliar under her bare feet as she walked to her unfamiliar dresser in her unfamiliar room. It was larger than her room in her apartment back in New York, but it didnât feel like home, and she knew it never would.
Trying to keep her daily routine as normal as possible, she changed into her spandex shorts and loose t-shirt, a workout calling her name.
Soon enough, the empty house was filled with music, blasting from the speakers that were wired to the majority of the rooms. Her neighbours were more than likely not fond of the dubstep sounds that oozed from the walls, but Mackenzie did not care. Her neighbours in New York got used to it, her neighbours here would have to, as well.
Massaging her calloused feet, she stretched her legs, bending her torso to her knee. She loved the flexibility dance gave her, but hated her veiny feet, thankful nobody really had to see them.
Unlike most teenage girls, Mackenzie loved just about every aspect of her appearance. Low confidence was a waste of time and a sure-fire way to fail in the dance industry. If you didnât love and believe in yourself, why would anyone else? Still, everyone had their little insecurities. Mackenzieâs just happened to be her feet, and of course, the pale pink scar that ran down her left thigh.
She was always criticized for her diet and workout routine, people doubting her confident resolve. She hated people like that, assuming eating well and exercise meant that she wanted to be thin to fit into societyâs standards. Mackenzie could not care less about that. But to be a dancer, certain criteria had to be met. A strong, slender body was key.
After a few sit-ups, push-ups, and pull-ups on her door frame, Mackenzie finally started waking up. Beads of sweat formed on her skin, and her chest heaved as she took in deep breaths. Glancing at her phone, her clock read 6:30 and she figured she had two options. She could go for her usual jog, though, she knew she would probably get lost in the new, unfamiliar town. Her second choice, get her cardio in by dancing a bit. The latter seemed much more appealing. So, turning the knob on her stereo to maximize the volume, she starting spinning around her hallways. Using a few pirouettes and other various ballet moves, she practiced her poses and other things her dance teacher in New York would expect from her. However, she often found herself getting lost in her steps, gliding from room to room paying no attention to her foot or arm work. She lost herself in the music, forgetting about the world around her.
That was why she loved to dance. The reality and all her troubles just melted away. Nothing existed but herself and the music.

CHARACTER NAME:Â William âWillâ Nathaniel Lambert
AGE:Â 22
GRADE:Â Senior
OCCUPATION:Â Shift supervisor at Pancake Palace
RELATIONSHIP STATUS:Â single
FACE CLAIM:Â Ian Somerhalder.
PERSONALITY:Â Positive:Â genuine, unobtrusive, charismatic, always has his friendsâ backs Negative:Â deflects his emotions, neat freak, reckless with himself but protective of others, too proud
The oldest of the two Lambert children, Will always felt a sense of duty and responsibility. This was further instilled by his father whose military background led to a strict and disciplined life for his children. Unlike his sister, Will thrived in the environment. In order to live up to his fatherâs expectations, he strived to get excellent grades and served as student council president. In his personal life, he had his best friends, Brett Riley and Daniel Littleton, and a healthy variety of father-approved girlfriends.
Will had always planned to follow in his fatherâs footsteps. To join the army after high school and serve his country. Make his father proud. However seeing his sisterâs life begin to spiral, Will knew he couldnât leave. There was no telling what would happen if she was left alone to deal with their parents. Instead, he stayed home and attended Brent University. He chose to major in criminology, hoping to become a police officer and still serve his country in some capacity.
Just before the start of his senior year, Willâs sense of adventure got the best of him. He and his best friend Danny had always planned to go backpacking through Europe after graduation. After Dannyâs death, Will knew that he would still go on the trip in honor of his friend, but he just couldnât wait until after he graduated. He took a semester off and left to explore Europe. Now that heâs back home, Will is determined to help his sister get clean and provide the support that all of his friends need.
ROLE PLAY SAMPLE:Â
This is one of Heatherâs paras
Dropping her phone back on the nightstand, Heather rolled over and cuddled her pillow. She was so tired from work and finals stress that sheâd decided to go to sleep early. She was hoping to get a full night of sleep and wake up well rested in the morning. Apparently her mind had other ideas. Sheâd had the nightmare many times before. At least once every couple of months since Danielâs death. But it always seemed to be worse around the holidays. He loved Christmas and winter and everything about that time of year. Two years later and Christmas just reminded her that he was gone.
Thank god she had her friends. And thank god for Brett. Her friends tried to comfort her, and were usually able to do so, but they didnât quite understand. Not like Brett. He was Danielâs best friend. He felt the loss just as deep as she did. He was also the only person that could make her feel better after a nightmare. Heather could open up to him and know that he would understand how she felt. She had no idea where she would be without him. She probably would have gone insane from the nightmares a long time ago.
With a deep sigh, she hugged the pillow tighter and rolled onto her back. The worst part was waiting for Brett to get there. She was left alone with her thoughts and they always scared her right after a nightmare. She couldnât get it out of her head, no matter how hard she tried. She closed her eyes and listened, hoping to hear him knocking on the front door soon.
YOUR NAME:Â Jess
YOUR AGE:Â 25
YOUR ACTIVITY LEVEL:Â I think I said a 6 last time. Iâm on usually late at night and it all depends on my work schedule. I try to be on at least once a day.
Hey, hey! I just wanted to give y'all a heads-up that I'm going to be gone this weekend because I'll be traveling, but depending on how quickly I get settled into my new place in France, I can be back early next week. I'll keep y'all posted!
Finnâs parents probably should have never gotten married, let alone have children; Mr. and Mrs. Marshall were from a middle class family, not too rich and not too poor. Mrs. Marshall is an extremely judgmental woman who came from an upper-class family; when she married Mr. Marshall, she was cut off from her money and forced to live a less superior life, something she constantly reminded her husband of every day. Mr. Marshall, on the other hand, is a hard-working mid-level businessman, who didnât want to hear what his snob of a wife had to say, especially since he was the one working and bringing home the money.
Finn was the first of two children, followed by his younger sister Phoebe; while their parents were never physically abusive or neglectful, they often didnât take their childrensâ feelings into account. When Finn went out for tee-ball, his father often jeered at him for not being able to hit the ball far enough, often leaving him embarrassed and hanging his head in shame. When Phoebe wanted to take up ballet, her mother told her that her legs were simply too fat for dancing. Finn and Phoebe often felt they werenât good at anything, growing up.
Eventually, Finn became tired of his parentsâ criticism and pessimism. They were always the ones to make him and his little sister feel bad, leaving the two siblings to build each othersâ self-confidence back up. It was time his parents felt bad about something. It started off small, with Finn refusing to eat his motherâs cooking because it âtasted funnyâ. He started to point out in the morning when his father dropped cream of wheat on his tie, or a graying hair on the manâs thinning scalp. Any fault Finn could find, or even make up, he did, and it began to have an effect. Heâd catch his mother in the kitchen, following cook-books word-for-word, or his father in the bathroom attempting to pluck those gray strands out. Any time Phoebe came to him crying because their parents put her down, Finn came up with a way to make them suffer in return. As Finn grew older, he learned everything his parents were insecure about. Their clothes, their hair, their car, what their friends thought of them⊠Finn used it all as a weapon to defend him and his sister.
Finnâs parents only seemed to be aware of what he was doing after he was halfway through high school; suddenly, their relationship became more of a game of passive-aggressive fighting and attempting to undermine one another. The only difference was, Finn had been undermined his whole life by them, so even when they turned up the heat, he wasnât affected. In fact, he seemed to give them reasons to pick at him. Drugs, alcohol, partying, bringing home strange girls in the middle of the night. So long as they picked at him, their focus was off of Phoebe, and that was all that mattered. Besides, being yelled at and berated, at this point, was the closest he was to his parents. It seemed to be how they expressed their love and concern for one another.
Finn graduated with high grades in spite of the life he was leading, so he applied to college, where he was accepted at Brent University. He decided to major in Psychology, due to him being fascinated with the human mind and what made people tick. He moved out of his house to an apartment complex near the university. He picked up a part-time job at the local Quick-Stop Shop as a cashier, though he makes a little money on the side by selling drugs to a select circle of friends and close acquaintances. Finn still maintains a relationship of sorts with his parents, going over to their house occasionally for dinner; for each of them, itâs a chance to gloat over one another about their successes, and pry at each other over each othersâ failures. As bizarre and bleak as it may seem, Finn wouldnât want his family any other way. Itâs made him the strong, independent person he is today and gave him his love for his major. It also made his bond with his sister stronger than steel; the two are thick as thieves and would do anything for each other. Overall, Finnâs happy with his life. Some people would say he got a raw deal, but he always says his parents made him a fighter, and only fighters win in this world.
ROLE PLAY SAMPLE:Â
(Not of this character, a different one I have! Itâs kindaâ religious-y since it was a rather religious character but it was the only one I could find that wasnât completely bleak or depressing. ;_;)
Wednesday night was always family night for the MacDermott home. It was the one day of the week where everyone came home from work, college or whatever they had going on in their life, to sit down at the family table and have a dinner before mass. Nora would drive in from DC, where she worked as a political campaign adviser. Braden and Teagan both still lived in Alexandria, and with help from their dad, always had the evenings off from the pub. Elaine came in from Milford, where she was working as a phlebotomist, and Siobahn traveled from Winchester, where she was attending Shenandoah University for music. Connor and Hannah had to do no traveling all, since they both still lived at home.Â
They would all have dinner together, talk about the events of the week and who was annoying them or who was making their days. Nora and Braden were both engaged, and Teagan, Siobahn and Hannah and steady boyfriends. Elaine wasnât quite ready for settling down, and Connor was much too busy with school, work and Dillon; aside from that, it seemed much harder to find a connection with someone when a child was already involved. Nora and Siobahn always fussed over Dillon, bringing him new toys and clothes just to spoil him for the sake of spoiling him, but on Wednesday nights, the infant was not without attention for a single second, which Connor absolutely loved to see.Â
Just like every Wednesday night, the family ate their meal before getting ready for mass. Though most of them didnât enjoy dressing up nicely, their mother wouldnât have them stepping foot in the church without looking appropriate. So after dressing in his suit, Connor dressed Dillon up as well, putting on a nice pair of pants (though heâd probably just spit up on them) and a clean shirt, before bundling him up in a coat. Once everyone was ready, the family piled into their cars and drove to the church for mass. They found the pews they always sat in, made idle chatter with others who frequented the church along with them, and then fell quiet when the service began.Â
Dillon did pretty well for services, even when he was teething. It helped that his mother packed teething rings along for the trip to give to him when he started getting fussy. He always made it entertaining, as well. When the sermon began to get lazy, a quick squawk or spitting up made things interesting, or at the very least entertained him and his siblings (though his mother gave disapproving looks for giggling in church). When it was time to pray the rosaries, Connor sat Dillon upright in his lap and set the bead in front of both of them on his knee. He gently wrapped the small baby fingers around the crucifx, holding his hand over Dillonâs and closing his eyes.Â
"I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day, He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen."Â
Dillon cooâd in approval; he always seemed to enjoy praying the Rosary. Connor didnât know if it was because it was soothing to hear his voice so calm and even, like reciting a special story, or if it was just divine intervention in the childâs life. He didnât think much of it, instead moving Dillonâs fingers to grasp the first bead, though he ended up gripping his hand around a fistful of the rosary. Close enough, in Connorâs opinion.
"Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen."
He moved the rosary through the infantâs hand, Dillon kicking his stubby legs and cooing again.Â
"Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen."Â
He began to repeat the prayer over again, another three times, though he had to pause on the last Hail Mary to keep Dillon from putting the rosary into his mouth. Once he righted the beads in their hands, he finished the last round. He stopped again momentarily to grab Dillonâs teething ring, since heâd finally begun to fuss, holding the ring for him to gnaw on before he continued, moving their fingers along to hold the chain.
"Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen."
They went into the Glorious Mysteries: The Resurrection, the Ascension, The Coming of the Holy Spirit, The Assumption of Our Blessed Mother Into Heaven and The Coronation of our Blessed Mother. Each mystery was meditated on while reciting Our Father, Hail Mary and The Doxology, ending with the Fantima Prayer. After the fifth mystery, he repeated The Doxology before looking down, noticing along the way that Dillon had fallen asleep, his hand still clutching the beads tightly. Connor couldnât help but smile; though he was sure his mother would disapprove of sleeping in church, he couldnât help but feel like⊠His son was protected. That was how he always felt in church; safe and protected from all the bad in the world.
It was strange; when Dillon first arrived on his doorstep, heâd been filled with nothing but dread and misery at how his own life had been ruined. His mother had told him how ungrateful and selfish he was, but it was just how he felt; there was suddenly, without warning, a responsibility in the world that he couldnât simply overlook. Heâd wanted to close the door and let child services take care of it, but heâd been filled with so much guilt by his mother for thinking of turning away a baby whoâd just lost his mother and needed his father. He felt lost and confused, scared and hateful, so she took him the only place where he felt heâd get a real answer: the church. He sat in the pews, and he cried. Cried because he was scared, cried because was angry at the unfairness of it all. When he was done crying, he felt safer. Stronger. His mother brought Dillon into the church to be with him; he was a little less than a month old, donning a little blue beanie and wrapped in a fleece blanket as he slept. In the church, he looked at the baby. Really looked at him. He noticed he had his eyes, his nose⊠This was his son. He couldnât turn him away. Not there, under the eyes of God, who for some reason thought Dillonâs existence was necessary. It was the first time Connor prayed with the baby; at only a month old, he wrapped Dillonâs tiny fist around the crucifix, and prayed with him.Â
Connor felt a constant guilt, even now, when he looked at Dillon. Heâd wanted so badly for Dillon to just go away, to not exist, so he could have his own life and do what he wanted. Heâd come to realize in the past half a year that even though things had become much harder, they didnât seem like burdens anymore. Waking up in the middle of the night when Dillon cried, or having to skip class or duck out on work to pick him up from the daycare when no one else could get him were annoyances, but he couldnât find it in himself to blame Dillon for any of it. He didnât feel that bitterness or upset with the baby anymore, because he was a part of Connor. They were in this together.Â
"O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need of Thy mercy."
His eyes closed again, one arm holding the infant snugly to himself while the other held the rosary firmly.Â
"Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ."Â
He let the rosary lay against his knee after gently pulling it from Dillonâs hand; in response, Dillonâs hand locked around his finger; it always tugged at his heart-strings, from the first time Dillon ever held his hand. He smiled and kissed the top of Dillonâs head again before picking up the rosary and hanging it around his own neck, looking to his family; without them, he probably would have floundered in all of this. Hell, without his mother, he probably would have spent the rest of his life regretting letting Dillon go into a world without his family, his father⊠Without love. While he was sure he would have eventually found a loving family, the system seemed to yield more horror stories than comforting ones.Â
The congregation began to leave, his family gathering up their belongings and chatting to some of their church friends. Connor rested Dillon against his shoulder and stood up, deciding to head for the front door. He took one last look toward the altar on his way out, pausing only a moment to take a really good look at it.
He may not have been the most devout worshiper on the face of the earth, but he knew enough to know that God existed. Dillon was proof; he was the pursuit of happiness, joy, love, strength, courage and determination. There was nothing in this world that could tell Connor otherwise.
God couldnât have given him a greater gift.

YOUR ACTIVITY LEVEL:Â Medium-highish. Iâm on probably about once every day, or every two days at the least.
Hey hey, I am going out of town for a wedding tomorrow. I will be pretty much completely gone until Sunday night. I'll miss you guys like crazy and I will try to drop in when I can. xx - Colin
well i mean, that's fine since i'm gonna stow away in your suitcase.Â
Close to Midnight last night, 31 of December, James 'Jim' Ford (Son of Sheriff Ford at the Brent PD) was involved in a fatal car accident. It is believed that he lost control of the wheel, and collided with a tree, then swerved and collided with a parked car. The young man (18) was dead by the time paramedics arrived. His father, as well as other officers were on the scene soon after. Funeral will take place on Sunday.Â
(All those that were headed to the bridge to jump would have found out about the accident as Adele was called, but otherwise it's up to you how you find out)
a note from nikki: I know this is a shock, and it wasn't exactly planned, so I just feel the need to explain at least basically why this has happened. While Liney adores Jim, she has been having a lot of issues with muse, and despite every effort to work it out, she struggled. We both decided that since Jim has been part of the game since the start, it would be hard to just remove the character as though he did not exist. We felt this would allow closure (even if it will be very emotional) for those characters linked to him.Â
