Mistaken for Strangers – Review
Tom Berninger (right), director and roadie, with his brother Matt, frontman of The National
Mistaken for Strangers is a tale of two siblings rather than your usual hedonistic rock doc. Tom Berninger’s lo-fi filming strips away all glamour and lays bare the mundanity behind any success.
The unavoidable egomania of fronting a band is explored through the lens of Tom’s struggle “to make something…

Big Things Happening
I apologize for the lack of posts, but I've been very busy in a great way! Here are the things that are going on.
First on the docket: "Video Memories" is approximately 98% complete! I've been working very hard to complete the sound edit, picking and editing music and adding in sound effects. Friday I did a mix for the movie at school on the SSL 4000G+ which was fun and sounded great. There's one more sound I forgot I wanted to put in, but besides that it is finished! I expect to have an exported finished product by the end of this week! It'll be up on the site shortly after that. My plans for "Video Memories": I'm going to start a Kickstarter project to raise money to submit both "Video Memories" and "Dreams in Barcelona" (which is nearing completion as well) to as many film festivals as possible.
Second up: I am helping out at Kagi Media, a connection I made through our great Student Services guy at SAE, Brad McDonald. I'm very excited to be helping out working on some audio, but at this time I don't feel it's appropriate to divulge much about what I'm doing. A big thanks to Brad and Jon Kagi for giving me the opportunity to further my experience and put my skills to the test!
Next: The band documentary, now tentatively titled Garage Band is starting to get under way! The Kickstarter project has been approved and I'm working to create a video proposal and writing out compelling details about the movie (not to mention backer rewards!) so I can put that up ASAP! I've been compiling and organizing footage, pictures, music, and other band paraphernalia so that I can start editing soon.
Last: School is sadly coming to a close. I only have two months left, which is very hard to believe. I'm working pretty hard at school to finish my final three projects:
(1) an SSL recording project, in which I'm almost done recording and now mixing a cover of Marvin Gaye's "Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)";
(2) a Video Sync project in which I am creating the sound for a clip from Terminator 2, which is a blast;
(3) and a Neve recording project, in which I'll be recording "Brain Damage" by Pink Floyd, which should be a lot of fun!
I'll be done and excited to move on to bigger and better things by the end of April! May will be a big month for me: I'm graduating from SAE, getting married and going on my fantastic, extremely exciting honeymoon, and hopefully starting to get jobs here and there in my new career! Stay tuned, this is an exciting time!
