tensions are high between our musicians and the watchful eyes of bandslam. ever since switching from a publication to, let’s face it, nothing but a petty gossip forum – there’s some well-deserved hostility towards bandslam from those it posts about. however, this doesn’t change the fact that every year, bandslam hosts a battle of the bands. and this year, they need all hands on deck to raise the funds for it. trust me, getting out of this one isn’t gonna be easy.
you either show your face or no battle of the bands. what’ll it be?
every fall, bandslam holds an elite, expert-level battle of the bands for the small upcoming independent musicians and bands of LA. that is, of course, only those that made the bandslam hottest newcomers of 2018 list. of course, this year, you've finally made the cut after attracting enough of their attention. congrats!
however, this year, things will be a little different. since a rise in competition left bandslam’s editors with no choice but to transform it from a publication into digital media only, sponsors are down and so are the funds usually used to hold these BOTB events. so what? why should you care, right?
because this time, there’s an ultimatum. bandslam are holding a fundraiser, a few weeks before the BOTB. you either turn up, meet fans and generate hype for the battle of the bands – OR you won’t be able to keep your spot in the lineup. and you NEED that spot. believe me. this is the biggest gig of your career so far, and whether you love bandslam or you hate us, you NEED to stand on that stage at the bandslam arena. we know you do. you’ve waited your entire life for an opportunity like this.
SURPRISE! IT’S OUR FIRST EVENT! SO... WE HEARD YOU LIKE DRAMA? WE’LL SEE...
alrighty, so! the concept here is that bandslam need that ka-ching if they’re gonna pull off holding their annual battle of the bands. understandably, the musicians have been pissed at the writers ever since they started airing their dirty laundry all over their trashy website, so it wouldn’t be surprising if a lot of them didn’t want to contribute to the fundraiser: that is, if it wasn’t for the fact that if they don’t show, they’ll lose their spot.
though the musicians are technically against bandslam as this point, they continue to need them for exposure to stay relevant, keep growing and attracting more fans. taking part in this battle of the bands was likely a dream of many of theirs from the moment they heard about it, back when bandslam was a dignified publication (what a concept!)
therefore, the musicians are left with a choice. show their face at the event or be cut from the lineup: a spot they’ve been yearning for for years.
the fundraiser is a one-night party at venice beach, where there’ll be fans, musicians and bandslam writers themselves. there’ll be meet & greets, performances, interviews, the whole sha-bang. aside from this, there’ll be a VIP area for participating musicians only. there’ll be free luxury refreshments, alcohol, networking and photo opportunities. don’t forget, though. bandslam aren’t too distracted. they’re still watching.

lastly, now it’s time for the boring but important heads up which should hopefully clear up any questions you may have!
1. we decided to make this event last over the span of four different days so that there’s a chance for people who get only get online on weekdays to reply, and the same with those who can only get online on weekends. however, in character, the event only lasts one night!
2. please use this event as an opportunity to interact and plot with those you haven’t before!
3. we highly recommend that you wrap up your existing non-event threads OR pause them while the event is taking place, however this isn’t strict or mandatory!
4. that being said, we really love to see you all taking part though! whatever the success is of this event will affect the outcome of the later battle of the bands event which will be coming soon, so please take part in this one!
5. when the event has finished, you may wrap up your event threads but no longer reply to any previously-unanswered event starters or write any.
6. please tag all of your event threads, starters and interactions with band:event and band:event001 !!
okay babes! we wouldn’t normally post two admin notes right after each other, but we felt as if this should be addressed. while we love that our members are plotting and using discord as another medium to rp among each other, we would like to remind everyone that dash activity shouldn’t slack because of it. as we recently opened for interactions, we don’t want anyone to feel left out and for this to become cliquey, because not everyone is going to have access to certain ic channels. if you wish to do a group thread, you are more than welcome to write it on the dash ( that’s what we’re here for, after all! )

hello, lovelies!! first of all, i just want to express how much i love this group and everyone in it, which is the reason why i’m concerned and posting this straight away.
we need to talk about discord, and this pertains to both ic and ooc. as we all know, our server is really active with so many people, and we've been lucky that we've all gotten along so well with no major problems that can’t be resolved. the ooc chat moves fast, and sometimes it can get wild with the rate at which people respond, but please — consider how your words might come across to someone else. we don’t always know what’s going on over on the other side of the screen. playful banter is fun and we’ve all done it, but it can quickly overstep some bounds even though that’s never the intention. sometimes, we have to put a little effort into getting along in a group this big, and that effort simply includes thinking about the things you send! the discord shouldn’t be something that causes angst and alienates people.
and speaking of angst... this is just a light reminder that ic drama is just that — ic drama. we all enjoy it, but sometimes it can be a bit much for folks. if you aren’t happy with the direction something is going in, speak up! i can guarantee others will listen and chances are, they had no idea the way you were feeling. no one is out to get someone else, this is all for fun!
this isn’t to call out any one person. i just happened to notice the tension lately, and others have voiced their concerns to me as well, but if there’s one trend i’ve noticed, it’s that you all care about each other a lot. all these miscommunications can be resolved with a simple message. i know everyone here is great, and i’m so happy to continue chatting and rping with you all! i just want to make sure we continue to be a warm and welcoming place where people feel safe, and i know we can do that<3
hey, guys. we’re making another admin statement to talk about a recent issue with anons leaving criticism that we find a little unfair. the asks are clearly from a member (or members) who are around enough to have settled into the group as they are picking at things that are exclusively happening on dash or in the discord. so, we’ll address it in this post, rather than in response to the anon(s), and will not be addressing it again afterwards.
1. there is only so much us admins can do to make everyone’s experience in this rp one that they are totally, completely and 100% satisfied with. a lot of this needs to come from our members too and often the asks we receive seem as though they are only holding blame to the admins despite the fact that we have made multiple efforts ( x, x ) to address the concern in question as well as other issues.
2. it’s concerning that as a member of this group you feel as though you can’t just approach one of us admins as a friend and talk to us about it rather than leaving asks that often feel hostile. we pride ourselves on being a really friendly group, something multiple members will back us up on.
3. we never want rp to be like a chore! we’ve said it in our rules, we’ve addressed it before in posts, and we’ll always have the same view on it: rp starts to lose its fun factor if admins start to become hugely strict on activity. it’s a hobby, not a job!
4. we don’t want to have to turn off anon, because it serves the purpose of allowing anon apps and giving shy potential applicants the opportunity to leave questions and queries before they join, so please, don’t make us do that. we’re trying our best.
hopefully we’ve covered everything and satisfied you with our answers. you are always welcome to come to us OFF ANON to discuss any more concerns as we don’t want the main to be full of negative asks, as that doesn’t reflect the rp.
today’s the day, folks! i’m off on hiatus for a week to go on a trip. i know everyone’s still eager for new bands and that there are people waiting for open band spots to be able to place potential muses in, but please understand that these things take time to do over on main. they’re definitely in the making behind the scenes though, so be patient with us, loves!
i leave you in the very capable hands of ash and corrie, and i know that admin bibi, who is still busy with some personal stuff at the moment, is thankful that you’ve all been so patient with her.
it feels kinda sucky of me to jet off right now since i haven’t actually put any change into action as of yet regarding the issue brought to me in the previous post: and i won’t be able to until i can get back on both my characters again.
i’ll try to keep you guys in the loop on the discord while i’m gone & keep up with new members as much as i can to make sure i’m not slipping up. of course this all depends on whether i have any time to do so, but if not, expect some major improvements from me when i’m back!
so most of our members will know this already, but of course it’s important to mention it here on the main. we’ve decided on taking a hopefully short, yet indefinite hiatus to revamp the rp. we feel it’s important to do so, and hopefully we’re making the right decision. we’re already looking forward to WTB 2.0, but to members past and present who have made this rp so fun for the past two months, thank you so much! hopefully we’ll see you back here after the revamp!

well, yes, the boy’s interesting. that’s not to say the other musicians aren’t, though, as we know there’s a lot of juicy gossip out there about ALL of the featured bands and artists we talk about here at bandslam. however, we can only speak on what we receive.
( AN OOC NOTE: we love every single character in this rp equally. there are so many muses we’d love to feature more on bandslam. so much so, that we’ve asked members on multiple occasions to send asks about their muses, and even taken it into our own hands on previous occasions and submitted asks about other people’s characters for them so that their plots - which are just as interesting as anyone’s - are being given attention too. however, there’s a danger in doing that. we could send in an ask about a character, but have misread the situation or maybe bandslam had no way of knowing the info in question. we know that bandslam serves as a huge aid to the plot here, so we wouldn’t want to perpetuate narratives about characters that aren’t what their muns intended. ricky was mentioned in the previous ask about nate and geeta, because it would be something that concerned him - however we do want to take a step back from talking about him on here as we would never want solely admin characters to take importance away from the rest. with this being said, please, please, please. leave us bandslam asks about your characters and their plots. we want to give them a platform. much love xx )
